Paper-cutting, also called paper engraving, is one of the oldest folk arts of Han nationality in China. Paper-cutting is a kind of hollow art, which gives people a sense of emptiness and artistic enjoyment visually. The carrier of paper-cutting can be paper, gold and silver foil, bark, leaves, cloth and leather. In 2008, a new kind of hand-made multi-layer color paper-cut appeared, the most representative of which is Jiangping paper-cut in northern Shaanxi. It developed into a multi-color, color-matching and beautiful pattern, forming a primary color and heavy color artistic language of "seeking complexity in simplicity, seeking sum in complexity and seeking difference in harmony".

Paper-cutting is a folk art form with a long history and widely spread in rural areas of China. Paper-cut art is a traditional folk craft of Han nationality. It has a long history and is enduring. It is a treasure in China folk art, and also a treasure in the world art treasure house. Its characteristics are mainly manifested in the two-dimensional concept of space, knife-like paper feeling, lines and decoration, freehand brushwork and implication [1] and many other aspects.
