Sony's latest camera model (the latest professional camera launched in 2022)

Venice 2 launched by Sony Electronics is a brand-new flagship model and the latest member of its high-end digital movie camera series. Include 8K and 6K versions, both of which use 36mm and 24mm Quan Huafu photosensitive elements.

The tolerance of 8K version is 16, and that of 6K version is above 15.

Venice 28k Cinalta camera has a unique 800/3200 double reference ISO, which enables filmmakers to shoot incredibly clear movie images in various lighting conditions. It supports everything from Quan Huafu and Quan Huafu Variant ii to Super35 with a resolution of at least 4K, thus providing an excellent multi-function camera system for cinematographers and producers.

VENICE 2 is based on the advantages of the original VENICE, and has new functions, including compact design, internal recording and options of two different sensors: the newly developed Quan Huafu 8.6K sensor or the original 6K VENICE sensor.

Venice 2 also inherited the popular features of the original Venice, including color science, double-base ISO and 8-speed built-in nd filter. With the newly developed 8.6 K Quan Huafu CMOS image sensor, VENICE 2 can provide excellent image quality with a total latitude of 16, and can capture beautiful images with excellent color separation and shadow details.

The 8K Sony Venice 2 digital movie camera has an impressive dynamic range of 16, and its internal recording formats are as high as PRORES 4444 and 422. Interchangeable sensors update usability and fuselage design. With its high-resolution capture and movie images, it is an improvement of DP, photography assistant, colorist, VR and VFX departments.

Cameras also inherited the original color science of Venice, and are highly respected for their natural skin color.

Sony retains the overall I/O and installation thread options similar to the original VENICE modular design, but the overall size is slightly smaller and the weight is reduced by 10%. However, in the actual conversation with the camera department, the main improvement is that the external AXS-R7 video recorder is no longer needed to record 4K raw materials.

On the contrary, you can record to the new high-speed 6.6 Gb/s AXS S66 1TB card internally, which allows you to record the X-OCN and 4K ProRes formats directly to the dual slots in the camera, thus saving the camera size and the need for additional components. The 6K sensor is the same as the previous VENICE sensor. For all models with new body functions, the 8.6K sensor can capture Quan Huafu 8640 x 5760 material at a speed of up to 30 fps.

In order to demonstrate the strength of VENICE 2 and its new 8.6K sensor, Sony cooperated with the top cinematographers in the industry to test the image quality of the camera in several separate film shooting without using any professional film lighting. The total latitude of 16 on the 8.6K sensor can provide excellent image quality in low light conditions, and provide high details of shadows and color separation while using the advanced color science of Venice original works.

The new VENICE 2 8.6K sensor also has 800/3200 dual-base ISO, windowing, 8.6K oversampling to 4K image quality, and the best VFX and VR support. It has low noise, 8K output and enhanced information.

Robert McCraquelin asker, an award-winning photographer of CSC, participated in widely acclaimed works, including Game of Thrones, westworld and Love Country. Maclachlan tested and filmed the new 8.6K Venice 2 in two countries in Quan Huafu, and provided his reaction.

I really hope we have a large format 8.6K sensor like Sony Venice 2 in my past works. Because of the improvement of resolution and richness, it will make people feel more epic, and at the same time it will be more fascinating and three-dimensional. The potential for increased speed, clearer highlights and shadows, and ultra-shallow depth of field will be a huge asset.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda ASC and ACC used the original Venice and tested the comparison between Venice 2 and the original in the darkness of the California desert. He gave this evaluation:

3200 ASA is incredible. Miranda said: "I think its cleanliness is definitely a big problem. In the movie, the shadows are still fidelity, and the wide-angle lens is spectacular. There is no movie lighting in this shoot. Only the headlights of the car, fire, that's the point. Just light a fire in a remote place and see how far the new sensor can illuminate the mountain without making noise.

It also has Quan Huafu, Quan Huafu distortion and more than 35 kinds of 4K shooting resolutions, so you can easily choose Quan Huafu mode, such as full 8.6K30, 8.2K60, 5.8K48 and 5.8K90.

Other updated functions of Venice 2 can improve your production quality, including the application of 4K LUT in output, 8K output through SDI, internal scraping microphone, repositioning the LAN connector side of sales staff from the operator, flexible deformation and Quan Huafu license upgrade, improved 3D LUT, Ethernet and wireless control of LUT and ASC-CDL configuration, and 2-pin LEMO power output.

VENICE 1 6K sensor can be put into VENICE 2, but 8.6K backward compatibility is not supported. The original Venice is still available, but considering all the improvements, if you work in the color, camera or FX department, Venice 2 is an attractive choice for your 8.6K or 6K production.

Updates to Venice 2 include:

Apply the 4K output of LUT. Improved 3D LUT processing is used to improve the image quality. EI changes are directly applied to the S-Log3 output. Ethernet connector controls LUT/ASC-CDLZoom through Ethernet /Wi-Fi to adapt. The position of the connector is changed to the Lemo 2pin 12V output connector on the auxiliary side of the camera.
