Impressive styling:

According to the author, after taking out K-01, the people around him Friends’ opinions on its styling are quite polarizing. Those who like it say that K-01 has a simple appearance and bold colors; those who don’t like it say that K-01 looks like a toy. The exterior design of K-01 still has many Pentax elements. According to designer Marc Newson, K-01 has quite a lot of styling details, which are taken from its favorite Pentax 6X7 medium film. It has a negative film body, but the overall design incorporates elements of his personal preference, such as the extensive use of a mixture of metal and rubber materials.

In order to be compatible with the Pentax K adapter, the K-01 still retains the space for the reflector even if the reflector is removed. This also results in the thickness of the K-01 being almost the same as that of a regular Pentax body. And under Marc Newson’s insistence, the right hand grip did not shrink or protrude significantly, but only slightly protruded from the body of the fuselage. Also due to the relationship between design and materials, the K-01 is not a lightweight camera. It weighs even 561 grams, which is already beyond most entry-level SLR cameras, not to mention the lightweight EVIL camera.

The button configuration on the back of the K-01 is roughly similar to that of the K-r. However, the use of rubber skins on the left and right sides is a bit subtle. There are some input and output slots and memory card slots under the skin of K-01. K-01 is not used under the skin. Instead of using a metal or plastic bottom plate, you can directly lift off the cover. As for the memory card, an additional plastic protective cover is added. In addition to being difficult to put back after opening, you can't help but worry about whether the rubber will deteriorate and be damaged over time.

As for the bottom of the fuselage, apart from the label sticker, the most eye-catching thing is probably Marc Newson’s signature. This should be important to many people who buy K-01. The reason is that the battery is the same D-LI09 as the K-5 and K-7. The actual battery life is about 400 shots, which is slightly less than the K-5 and K-7.

DA 40mm XS, the thinnest APS-C lens in history:

K-01 Unique shape , of course, it also needs to be equipped with a unique lens. The result of brainstorming between Pentax and Marc Newson was to modify the DA 40mm Limited, which represents Pentax's lens design skills in the glorious era. Without changing the optical structure, the original copper was chromium plated. The bayonet of the DA 40mm Limited was changed to aluminum alloy, and the full-time manual focus and 49mm lens protection thread were cancelled. Of course, the included lens hood of the DA 40mm Limited was also gone. The thread of the lens protection cover was reduced to 25mm, and the overall thickness was reduced from the previous 15mm. to 10mm.

Compared with the previous DA 35mm F2.4, the DA 40mm XS is also a streamlined and cheap version, but the bayonet part is not simplified into plastic material. This is fortunate, just the outer frame. It's really plastic. However, because the lens is thinner than the DA 40mm Limited, it is a bit difficult to disassemble and install from the bayonet. When installing the K-01, it is easy to be disturbed by the rotation of the focus ring when holding the DA 40mm XS with the thumb and index finger of the left hand.

Maintaining a flat operating interface:

The first thing you see when you turn on the computer is this big special startup screen. Of course you don’t like this screen. It can be turned off, but if you are a fan of Marc Newson, you probably won't want to turn it off.

When turning each mode, the screen will remind you what the corresponding functions of these buttons are. In video mode, the AF/AE-L button will be forced to be regarded as the autofocus function.

There are the above four autofocus modes, namely face recognition, object tracking, focus selection and center point. Under Select Focus, click the OK button to select the desired focus. With focus selected, press the green key and the focus will return to the center point.

After pressing the Info button, this shortcut menu will appear. This operation logic has its prototype starting from Pentax Km; most functions can be used in this without entering the main menu. Completed in the screen.

Pentax Q also has the function of positive and negative processing, but in addition to random positive and negative processing, K-01 also has three sets of fixed colors and three sets of custom colors.

As for the way to customize the negative processing, you can use the positive and negative processing to take photos and press the button. This screen will appear, and then select this "Save the positive and negative processing settings to Favorite" to retain the current color setting. Because when shooting randomly, there will be combinations other than the three fixed colors. Sometimes you can save the color you like through this function, so you don't have to bet in random mode all the time that that set of colors will appear.

?The basic setting menu is divided into these three pages. The GPS on the third page is not that K-01 is equipped with GPS, but is a function after purchasing an additional GPS kit.

As for the video menu function, it is relatively simple. The interval photography function is just like Q. You can set the shooting interval, continuous shooting time, timer shooting and other functions. After continuous shooting, it is finally saved as a video file. .
