About the author:

Marc Riboud

Marc Riboud, a famous French photographer. Born in Lyon, France on June 24, 1923, he is widely known for his extensive coverage of the Eastern world. During World War II, he participated in the French Resistance Movement. Afterwards, he studied mechanics at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and worked as an engineer. In 1951, he began to devote all his energy to photography. In 1952, he met Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, and later joined the famous Magnum photo agency. In 1957, Mark became the first Western photographer allowed to enter China to shoot in the 1950s (he has traveled to China more than 20 times since then). He made several news reports on North Vietnam in 1968, 1972 and 1976. Mark Riboud profiled the war from both Vietnamese and American perspectives.

Macribou served twice as Chairman of Magnum Europe. His work has been published in Life, National Geographic, Paris Match and Star Weekly, among other magazines. He has also won two awards from the Overseas Press Association of America, the Infinity Award from the New York International Center of Photography, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sony World Photography Awards.
