How to color high-grade ash in oil painting? What are the skills?

Let's talk about the concept first. The so-called "advanced gray" is a popular color concept in recent years. As far as I know, it appeared on INS earlier, and many UP owners like to turn photos into high-grade gray tones. Let's take a look at some photos first:

From the photos, we can see some inherent characteristics of advanced gray. It makes all colors in the photo inconspicuous, and the saturation of all colors is not high. This will not really make the photo gloomy, but will reveal a pure sense of advanced. The rhythm of the picture is slow and elegant, and it looks very quiet and quiet. This photo effect was not known to domestic photographers at first, but later, through a TV series "Introduction to Yan Xi Palace", this color matching style was made known to everyone. The color matching of the scenes and costumes in the play brought a kind of visual comfort to the audience, so everyone went to check the information one after another, and later learned that this color matching style was called "Mo Landi" tone:

So everyone began to follow this style. Whether the name of this style is Mo Landi or high-grade gray, we don't care about its name, and no matter who appeared first, we only look at its characteristics. You can find the * * * commonness between them from the above photos: 1, there is no particularly large light ratio 2, there is no large area of black and white 3, there is no conspicuous color 4, all colors look low saturation 5, and the contrast between light and shade is not too big 6.

Note that these photos are not really gray, which is different from the gray tone of the usual film texture. High-grade ash is to inject different degrees of ash into all colors, some say it is 50% ash, others say it is 18% ash. These values are not important. It is important that all the colors in the picture will not become rich and full of low saturation because of the addition of gray.

In fact, it is not so much ash as powder. This powder is not pink. Let's take a look at gouache paintings or pastel porcelain in the Qianlong period of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty. It's the feeling of powder, which is hard to describe, like a matte matte. All colors are light, never strong. So it's hard to say advanced gray, because it's about feeling, not parameters. I feel this thing, and so does a person.
