Where does the soul go after death?

Where does the soul go after death? When the body of an Indian girl was burning, the camera captured a figure floating out of the raging fire. . But this is not necessarily true. Many atheists still insist on not believing in heaven and hell. So where does the soul go after a person dies? 1

After a person dies, the soul will enter the six realms Reincarnation means reincarnation. All living beings in this world are born and die, dead and reborn; reborn and dead, dead and reborn again. This cycle continues, in the six realms of reincarnation (the heaven, the human, the asura, the hell, and the hungry ghosts Dao, animal path) goes around and around, so it is called the continuation of life and death. This life is a matter of following habits, and all living beings are willing to follow this life; when it comes to death, it flows with the changes in karma, that is, with the karma he has created.

Before the eighth consciousness leaves a person, this is called the warm touch of not giving up

When this living being is about to die, all the six consciousnesses have gone, and the seventh consciousness has also left. Only the eighth consciousness remains.

Wherever this eighth consciousness comes from, it will be warm and hot. For example: if the eighth consciousness passes through the soles of the feet, the soles of the feet will be hot; if it passes through the legs, the legs will be hot. At this time, this is the present yin, the present five yin bodies.

If you cultivate this yin, it will become a Buddha; if you don’t cultivate it, it will become a ghost.

At this time, both good and evil in life suddenly appear: in this life, if you do good deeds, you will be reborn in heaven, if you do evil deeds, you will fall into hell; whatever you do, you will receive the consequences at this time. If you do a lot of good deeds, you will walk from your head; if you do a lot of sins, you will walk from your feet. So walking from the top is rising; walking from the bottom is falling, which is falling. So all of this has a way of expression and expression, so it is said that "it appears all at once", and it all appears immediately.

Because of this, the method of reciting Buddha’s name is like this, and the other methods of sitting meditation, the method of chanting mantras, and the method of studying teachings are also like this; they are all done by you. If you don't have this habit, it will be too late when you need to use it.

After death, the bardo stage

During this period of seventy-seven and forty-nine days, one has to go through many trials in the underworld. After the judgment, if the person has heavy good karma, he will be born in the good path; if the person has heavy bad karma, he will be born in the evil path. This is the general situation of human life and death.

How to go to an auspicious place after death

Within forty-nine days, you can help him recite precepts, chant sutras, recite mantras, recite Buddha's name, make offerings to the Three Jewels, release animals, seal Buddhist scriptures, and create The pagoda creates various benefits and makes offerings to the Three Jewels to save him.

The Buddhist scriptures explain in detail: If there is a man and a woman. Not practicing good deeds in life. Commit many sins. After death. The dependents are small and large. For welfare. After these forty-nine days, he will receive the retribution of his own deeds. He passed through thousands of years, but there was no moment of liberation. Where does the soul go after death 2

Both Buddhism and Christianity claim that after death, those who do good will go to heaven, and those who do evil will go to hell, or be reincarnated.

How can the soul of a deceased ancestor stay in the grave year after year, waiting for his descendants to come to "give money"? If they have been reincarnated as humans, and you kindly burn a bunch of hell coins for them, wouldn't you also curse them to die early?

Don’t get entangled first. In fact, Ananda asked the Buddha this question as early as the Buddha’s time.

The "Initiation Sutra" records such a story:

Venerable Ananda, "the best in hearing", asked the Buddha: "If someone ends up in the mountains and fields, he builds a tomb and pagoda. , Is the human spirit in it?" Generally speaking, when a person dies and enters the tomb, will the soul remain in the tomb?

The Buddha's answer is "both present and absent." When a person dies, his soul will stay in the tomb. After the bones decay, the soul will no longer be there. The specific time varies from person to person.

The Buddha said: The first type of person "if he does not create good roots in life and does not recognize the Three Jewels. He does not do evil, he does not receive blessings from good, he does not suffer from evil, and he has no good friends to cultivate blessings for him." The souls of such good and not bad people will stay in the tombs after death, until the bones rot, and then the souls wander around the world, neither heaven nor hell will capture them.

The second type of people "while alive, they pray to evil ways, do not believe in the truth, keep their evil destiny alive, and flatter and deceive others." This kind of people will fall into depravity due to the bad karma and fate they have created after death. You will suffer endless suffering in hell, and you will fall into the realm of hungry ghosts and animals in your next life.

The third type of person "does good deeds and practices diligently during his lifetime." After the death of such a person who has done good deeds and accumulated good fortune, his soul may ascend to the thirty-three heavens, or he may be reborn in the world of wealth and wealth. The moment the soul leaves the tomb, it will be reborn in a good place through good deeds.

Therefore, in the Buddha's era, in order to achieve early liberation, monks and wealthy families usually used the method of "dabi" (cremation) to prepare their funeral arrangements and speed up the reincarnation of the soul.

In fact, regarding the issue of "return of the soul", China has had the opposing views of "death of the body" and "passion of fire after death" since ancient times. The Buddha has long given the answer to this: the soul will be attached to the physical body until the physical body is completely destroyed, and then it will be led by karma to find another place.

Let’s go back to the question at the beginning of the article: Is it meaningful to sweep the tombs of our deceased ancestors and burn paper for them?

In the Buddha's view, the souls of newly deceased ancestors are left in their graves, and they can feel the respect of future generations. The souls of our long-lost ancestors have left. Tomb sweeping during the Qingming Festival and paper burning during the Zhongyuan Festival are just for future generations to seek some psychological comfort. Where do the souls go after people die?

From the perspective of mainstream value judgment, Zi "If you don't talk about strange powers and chaos," you also said, "How can you know death if you don't know life?" However, it also emphasizes the attitude of "death is like life." To put it simply, Confucianism does not admit the existence of ghosts, but it also advocates people to respect and remember the dead.

When it comes to the people, it manifests itself in a strong belief that death is as important as life. It is not only believed that people have souls after death, but also believes that human souls need to live a life like the earth in the underworld. From human death to funerals and sacrifices, everything reveals that the soul is treated according to the logic of the world. So here comes the point, where does the soul go after death?

Folks generally believe that after death, the soul goes to the underworld. Some people will say why not go to heaven. Sorry, at least in Chinese tradition, humans and animals can enter the heaven only after they have cultivated enough and ranked among the immortals. Note that the word heaven is rarely mentioned, and it seems strange to use it, as if it is an expression from the Bible.

In the area at the junction of Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan, people believe that people need to float to the underworld after death, so every year during the Shangyuan Festival, Qingming Festival, and July and a half, there must be a memorial ceremony for the souls. of sacrifice. July and a half is most typical. It clearly expresses people's imagination of the soul, such as burning paper wallets, paper horses and camels, the cold wind in the middle of July, ghosts wandering the streets with dustpans, ghosts riding on river lanterns, lonely ghosts snatching money, etc. imagination.

I conducted a field survey in July and a half, and a relatively relaxed article will be posted on my Zhihu article platform. I won’t go into details here. Where is the soul before birth? This point has not been investigated in detail at least, so it is difficult to answer here. Naturally, there is a theory of reincarnation in Buddhism, but how the people explain it in other fields requires careful investigation.

Let me express my personal views again. Whether people have souls or not depends very much on personal beliefs. It is different from the atheism advocated by some extreme materialists, who then put it into practice and completely overturned families, ancestral temples, and shrines. I believe that there is a soul after death, and I think this is a beautiful imagination. At the mental level, a person's short life is placed in an infinite space. I think this is the completion of life.

Human beings’ finite nature must lead to greatness through yearning for infinity. Therefore, Taoism pursues immortality and Buddhism pursues nirvana and rebirth. Why listen to other people’s advocacy and regard these pursuits as superstitious.
