"They think my life is ruined!"
When Lin Guanhui was admitted to her first choice, the Film Department of the Department of Radio and Television of Shih Hsin University, her parents said this when she faced foreseeable difficulties and hardships.
But "I am very stubborn!" Lam Guanhui never said it, she always said it "doing it".
"For them, making movies is too far away!" Lam Guanhui couldn't help but sigh when talking about the process of entering the film industry. For more than ten years, Lin Guanhui has never given up, telling her parents through actions that the film industry can also be seen. The first few movies that Lin Guanhui came into contact with were under the guidance of her brother. In her childhood, her brother was her idol. She said, "My brother is 5 years older than me. In high school, he played rock music and watched Western movies, which had a profound influence on me." To this day, she still reviews movies with her brother.
"I am a thief. I will rewrite the Western movies I have watched into novels and tell my classmates that I wrote the script." Lin Guanhui said with a smile, with childish mischief in her eyes. But turning movies from a hobby into a career is hard to imagine for parents. When Lin Guanhui finally re-entered the Department of Broadcasting and Television at Shih Hsin University, her family was very opposed to it and even thought her "life was ruined."
"I am very stubborn!" Lin Guanhui said that she never used words, she always used "doing" to convince her parents with her works. Lin Guanhui recalled that when preparing for the funding for her graduation production "Beyond the Mist", she worked for three years before starting filming.
"At that time, they felt that all my money was thrown into the water," said Lin Guanhui. "However, the male protagonist of "Beyond the Mist" is my father. He scolded me while filming. I think this can be considered a kind of support. If you really don’t support it, just force me to do something else.”
Use movies to pay tribute to that generation.
"My family is very story-telling." Lin Guanhui described that her family all fled to Taiwan from the mainland. Her grandfather and grandmother were separated and reunited twice during the war. At the age of 10, my father also left his family and traveled across the ocean with the army.
At that time, most of us could not imagine how a 10-year-old child left his hometown and how a couple was separated twice. However, Lin Guanhui decided to use these stories in the form of movies to let people continue to tell them. Keep telling.
"Memory has always been a very important theme in my works." For Lin Guanhui, once the stories of the past are no longer told, it means that these stories have died and disappeared. "My parents and grandparents lived through that troubled era, so I have heard too many extraordinary stories about ordinary people." Lam Guanhui said, "The "Times Photo Studio" I shot is a long-term portrait of that generation. "A tribute."
"Memory" has always been a very important theme in movies for Lin Guanhui.
Director Lin Guanhui insists on moving towards his dream and uses movies to pay tribute to the people who have gone through the troubled times.
"Times Photo Studio" tells the story of how the lives of an old photographer and four wandering teenagers intersected in an old photo studio that no one cares about. Through the eyes of an old photographer (played by Ding Qiang), we can interpret the old photos full of stories, giving the audience a lot of space for reflection. Among them, Lin Guanhui also put the true story of his family in the play.
In order to create such a photo studio, Lin Guanhui went to the old street of Guanyin Township and borrowed a warehouse from a water and electricity store to renovate it. She traveled to old photo studios in various places to buy posters, photos, cameras, etc.
Lin Guanhui said: "There are many things that you can't make by hand. The old-fashioned shooting method uses optics and chemistry to reflect the human image on an object, which has a soul inside. His life is locked in photos."

She said that old-fashioned photo studios would not let customers take away the negatives, and often kept a large number of portrait negatives. "As soon as you enter that time and space, you seem to really encounter People from the past are walking through it." It was this film that moved her parents, because they knew that what Lin Guanhui told sincerely in the play was the story of their generation.
But despite such hard work, Lin Guanhui never thought of giving up. She said: "I have never hesitated. I feel that making movies has such a great sense of achievement and feedback. If I were asked to change my career, there is really no way. I still have too many stories to tell.
