Behind the scenes of Tess of the D 'Urbervilles.

The filming of this film almost stopped because it was over budget. Fortunately, francis coppola, a famous American director, had a unique vision and promised to use the proceeds from the French release of Apocalypse Now to pay for the filming of Tess, so that this masterpiece was not stillborn. Therefore, Polanski and Coppola, two great directors, have a close relationship with Tess and Apocalypse Now, which has become a little-known story in the film industry.

The final production cost of Tess was $654.38 million+0.2 million, and the initial duration of the film was more than 4 hours. The producer thought the commercial screening was too long, forcing Polanski to cut it for more than an hour.

The shooting time of the film is also very long, because Polanski has to shoot real scenes all the year round, and his selected shooting locations are distributed in more than 80 places.

Tess has won numerous awards, the most famous of which are: Best Director, Best Photography and Best Film at the 5th Caesar Film Festival; Best photography, best art direction and best costume design in the 53rd Oscar; Best foreign language film and best new star (female) in the 38th Golden Globe Awards; Best Photography Award of the 35th British Film Academy.
