The light distribution skill of the shed makes the light more diversified.

Lead: Lighting is also an art, with amateurs watching the excitement and experts watching the doorway. Each lamp has a different function. We all know that when shooting outdoors, we will use reflectors and flashlights to create eye light and enrich the visibility of photos from small details. Of course, the same is true when using shed lights. In addition to paying attention to the light of the subject's face, we should also consider the matching between the model's movements and the light, the brightness of the background light, and dispatch small accessories such as honeycomb cover, soft light cover and transparent umbrella when necessary. To change the light and improve the brightness. Let's share with you what other methods can make the light emitted by the shed lamp more diverse!

The lighting technology of shed photography makes the light more diversified, makes good use of background paper and contrast, and creates ever-changing tonality.

In addition to soft light shooting, another mainstream of shooting in the shed is the shooting of contrast light, which is most used on background paper. The photo below is a very standard background paper polishing work in the shed. Here we use four lights, one is the main light on the model's head, which plays the role of the main shadow; One is to add a front fill light with a transmission umbrella on the front of the model; We also used another lamp to brighten the background, so it won't be too dark and there will be more layers. Finally, we added a honeycomb lamp to the model's foot to create a light spot on the ground, and this photo was completed. Actually, it's not difficult to shoot the background paper. The focus is on the solidity of the model's own movements and what is the focus when turning on the light.

Take this picture as an example. At first, I just wanted a simple soft mask with light and shadow changes to show the cool personality of the model itself. In order to make the light not too hard, we used an octagonal cover of 150 cm. It's just that such a big cover has a large lighting range. In order to enhance the contrast of people, we chose a higher angle and oblique angle for lighting. But the problem is: in this way, the front of the model and the lower part of the face will have too much contrast because of insufficient light. Simply put, these parts will be too dark; That's why we need to install another lamp in front. Then why add a transmission umbrella? Mainly because of the need to soften the positive light.

After adding these lights, I found that the background was too dark, so I added a low-yield' honeycomb light' to make the background look layered, but not too bright, which ruined the feeling of the whole photo. Finally, the light spots (honeycomb lights) added to the feet are to enhance the dramatic effect.

Having said that, in fact, Mark just wants everyone to know that when you light a lamp, you must know what each lamp is for; Even when shooting, you should know what the tone of the whole photo will feel, so that you can arrange the lights according to your own general direction and complete a photo.

The flexible use of light and shadow completes a rich sense of hierarchy.

The same situation can also be applied to the following photos. When taking this photo, I have a general understanding that the light that manufacturers want is layered and not too hard, so we used bare light to express it from the beginning, because some of the light of bare light will be reflected by other media to get some soft light, while the straight part has the characteristics of hard light, which just meets the needs of manufacturers. But after the first fight, because the background was white, it felt a little less layered, so we added a fake frame between the lamp and the person and polished a black shadow to increase the layering of the background.

In this example, the main light is also decided first, and then supplemented afterwards to meet the requirements of our photos. Therefore, the most important thing in lighting is not the technical problem, but to make clear your purpose before lighting this lamp.

Make good use of tricks to make the light feel more natural.

This is natural light, creating a feeling of top light. In fact, in some studios, there are skylights on the roof, which is more convenient for shooting natural light; But because Mark's shed couldn't open the skylight, he had to use light to simulate it. First, I set up a wooden wall on the right side of the model, and then spread the light to the whole shooting space by using the way of shed light jumping. Although the goal was achieved, I always felt that the light was a little too clean, so I adjusted the direction of the lamp holder to let some light enter the lens, creating some fogging phenomenon caused by obsidian light, and finished this work.

Because it is raining heavily outside, we want to make a window feel sunny, so we must use lighting. After all, this is the only way to make a fake sun at present.

Behind these works, there are some foundations learned in previous classes, such as polishing background paper; But most of them are inspired by Kyle's observation in daily life. For example, when imitating natural light, the point is that you are indoors. Unless the sun shines directly into the window, in most cases, we should get diffuse light, not direct light. In addition, using fake windows to express the layering of light and shadow is the inspiration gained by observing street lamps while walking; The last one that imitated the natural ceiling was the idea that Mark got in the auditorium of the primary school when he went to take a wedding record one day.

In fact, there are many light conditions in nature that we can learn and use on the basis of lighting; We probably don't have to learn too advanced lighting methods from the beginning, because a lot of light in daily life is our best learning object.
