What is the main story of "Life of the Ekimos"?
In the Arctic region of the Earth, there are the poles. The northern regions of Russia, Canada, the United States, Finland, Denmark and other countries are located in the Arctic Circle, where icebergs stand and the climate is very cold. The average annual temperature is below minus 30 degrees, and the extremely low temperature has been recorded as low as minus 80 degrees.
Just under the harsh natural conditions of the Arctic, strong, optimistic, and peaceful Eskimos live.
The Eskimos live in the Arctic region and are the product of a struggle for survival. 8,000 years ago, the ancestors of the Eskimos crossed the Bering Strait and came to America. However, American Indians have already made their home there. Driven and chased by the Indians, the Eskimos continued to retreat to the north. The Indians believed that the high and cold Arctic regions were not suitable for human habitation and that nature would eliminate them sooner or later, so they stopped hunting them. Unexpectedly, the Eskimos thrived in the Arctic and survived tenaciously.
The biggest problem for the Eskimos is survival. They live in igloos and wear clothing made of sealskin and arctic fox fur. They ate raw seal meat and whale meat, and lit small seal oil lamps. Harsh natural conditions foster a sense of community. In order to cope with the harsh nature, they practiced primitive communist life. Some people caught whales and divided them into many piles. Each household in the village had a share, and each person had a share. Due to the difficulty of survival, they are very fond of children. If you like a child, parents will feel comfortable letting the child live with you. In their consciousness, the children belong to the entire tribe.
The difficult environment also fostered the normal mentality of the Eskimos. If two hunters are out hunting, and a crack suddenly grows in the ice, separating them, they may be separated for life or death. But Eskimos will remain calm, wave as usual, and let nature take its course.
The old Eskimo is respected by all members of the tribe because of his rich experience. However, in the past years of famine, the old people would be worried about the trouble they had brought to the tribe and future generations because they had lost their hunting ability. They quietly walked out of the igloo into the wilderness and let the polar bears eat them. They believe that by eating themselves, polar bears contribute to reducing food shortages, and that polar bears will also be converted into Eskimo food in the future, thus storing food for future generations.
In the old life of the Eskimo elderly, dogs are their companions. Dogs are their friends, helpers in hunting, and motivation for pulling. When some hunters encounter polar bears, dogs will bite them desperately to protect their owners. In case of loss of direction, the dog relies on its good ability to identify directions and brings its owner home safely. Therefore, the elderly owner always plays with the dog, grooms it and feeds it. Petting the dog and reminiscing about the past are important parts of their lives.
Now some Eskimos have also led an urbanized life. The government built houses for them, they also made phone calls, watched TV, and lived in retirement. After retirement, they will spend time playing with traditional national handicrafts and making some bone carving products and sewing products as handicrafts. Some elderly people feel lonely and rent out rooms during the tourist season to receive tourists from all over the world. In this way, they can have some income and make friends from all over.
However, many old people who live in cities still often dream about the wonderful life of hunting whales and cheetahs on the ice fields
