Learning picture illustration —— How to learn picture illustration from scratch?

How to get started if you want to learn illustration? The above two pictures are illustrations I drew for my family, which were made into derivative tableware and bags.

Many people ask me what illustrations are. How to learn? Does it work? Starting today, I will share my understanding of illustration and my experience on how to teach illustration by myself without foundation for non-art majors.

First, the definition of illustrations

The first two pictures.

You should be familiar with these two pictures, illustrations in primary school Chinese textbooks. In fact, this is illustration, commonly known as illustration.

Illustration is to emphasize and publicize the meaning of the article or create a visual effect, and then visualize the text content.

Second, the types of illustrations

Classification by application

1. Poster publicity belongs to outdoor advertising, which is mainly distributed in a series of public places such as urban streets, commercial areas, parks and stations.

Public welfare category

film

2. Illustration of product packaging

3. Children's picture book field

4. Comedian

5. Publications, WeChat official account headlines, Weibo articles.

6.CG animation

All of the above can be classified as commercial illustrations. One more thing, commercial illustration is just one of many art forms, which is short-term and efficient, and is essentially different from professional painting, which is why even zero foundation can quickly enter the world of illustration.

According to tool classification

1. Colored lead

2. Watercolor painting

3. Oil painting

4. Needle pen

5. Digital illustration, which I want to focus on, because most illustrations are made of digital illustrations, that is, software. For example, PS, AI, SAI these mainstream design software. These two paintings are made of AI.

Let's call it a day. The next article will share the tools and resources related to drawing illustrations, and how to become a commercial illustrator with zero foundation. Welcome attention.

How to learn to draw illustrations from scratch? If you know what illustration is and what tools you can use it, you can practice directly with pictures. After taking the first step, the next operation will be much easier.

This is a picture I drew when I first studied illustration. It belongs to flat style and is easy to use among many illustration styles. Next, I will take this picture as an example to tell you how a complete illustration is made.

This illustration is actually made up of several small objects.

Because of space reasons, here I will take the simplest mobile phone as an example to show the whole painting process.

The first step is to open the digital drawing software AI and create a new canvas. Students who don't have a software foundation should first go online to find free courses to familiarize themselves with software, such as Netease Cloud Classroom and Youyou.com, which all have complete introductory tutorials.

After creating a new canvas, a window will pop up. You will see several commonly used canvas sizes. You can select one of them or create a new size in the list on the right. If it is a new size, it is best to change the name of the canvas first, then adjust the width and height of the canvas, and then adjust it vertically or horizontally. The color mode is generally RGB mode, so don't change it casually.

After creating the canvas, drag the picture on the desktop into the created canvas window.

The first step after dragging in is to adjust the brush. There is a brush tool at the bottom of the menu bar. Click the drop-down box with the word "basic". There is a list box on the right side of the drop-down box. Click to create a new brush. Click.

A new calligraphy brush appears, and then click OK.

The Calligraphy Brush option appears. Now we just need to change the size and change the brush size to 3pt.

Next, change the stroke color, because the mobile phone is composed of color block filling and strokes, and the strokes are unified, so change the strokes first.

Press the shortcut key m to pull out the shape of the mobile phone.

Press the shortcut keys Ctrl+C and Ctrl+F, and paste a rectangle in place to make a mobile phone screen.

Continue to paste in place to make the top layer of the mobile phone screen.

Locate the rectangle tool in the toolbar, and then click the rounded rectangle tool.

Use the mouse to pull out the rounded rectangle and fill it with blue color. You can also directly use the color absorption tool I to absorb the color of the reference object next to it.

Similarly, click Change Tool to Polygon Tool on the rectangular toolbar.

Click in the blank space to pop up a window and adjust the number of sides to 3.

Click OK, and a triangle will pop up immediately.

Adjust the size of the triangle, and put the triangle at the lower right of the rounded rectangle to make a dialog style.

Select rounded rectangles and triangles with the selection tool V, and find the path finder in the window of the menu bar.

The figure behind the path finder completes the dialog box.

Then ctrl+C, ctrl+V, copy three dialog boxes, rotate one of them, and lengthen the dialog box.

According to the previous method, copy the shape of a mobile phone and fill it with gray as the shadow of the mobile phone to give it a three-dimensional effect.

Press the shortcut key L, and then press alt+shift. Don't let go of your left hand. Press the left mouse button with your right hand to pull out a perfect circle, which is the home button of your mobile phone.

The size of the mobile phone came out. If you want to be more detailed, you can add shadows and other details of the phone.

Other small objects are similar. Many simple and interesting flat objects can be drawn by using shortcut keys, strokes and padding.

Therefore, illustration is not as difficult as imagined.

How to teach yourself how to teach illustrations;

First of all, you need to have a graphic tablet, and then practice your lines on the software; Choose the painting software that suits you. If you don't know enough about painting software, practice with ps first.

Second, to learn color, you can first find several groups of simple color pictures for analysis, and then copy them;

Third, studying light and shadow is a bit like photography. Only when there is light can there be a shadow, and light and shadow are inseparable. If a painting wants to have a three-dimensional sense, it must have highlights and shadows;

Fourth, keep practicing and strive for originality. When you start learning, don't look down on your eyes. Both lines and colors should be copied simply. The practice of light draft is very maddening. People who learn illustration well must have enough patience.

If you find it difficult to study by yourself, you can also sign up for a training class in the early stage to see your actual situation online or offline. I also reported to the training class in the early stage. Only when I have a good foundation in the early stage will my promotion in the later stage become more and more obvious.

First of all, we should have the mentality of "painting is not good-looking" and "painting is not right or wrong". In short, different people have different views on whether a painting is good-looking. There is a reference for drawing the wrong picture, which can be said to be right or wrong.

Painting, especially illustration, should be free and casual, without being too nervous. Painting is not good-looking, painting is not right or something, which are all bad attitudes that hinder you from painting. It is the first step to learn illustration from scratch to dare to draw.
