When shooting lightning, pay attention to the following points:

2. When shooting lightning, the target you are focusing on is dark, and the camera's autofocus system may not be able to focus. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the lens to MF manual focusing mode and set the focal length of the lens to infinity. At this time, the lens is in the state of "hyperfocal distance", and clear imaging can be guaranteed from very close to infinity.

3. When shooting lightning, the choice of aperture value is not so important. In most cases, using F 1 1/F 16 can achieve good depth of field and clarity while maintaining a reasonable shutter speed.

4. The lower the sensitivity setting, the better, such as ISO 100 or even ISO50. Low sensitivity can reduce some noise caused by long exposure.

Lightning appears randomly and irregularly, usually lasting less than 1 second, so it is too late to press the shutter when you see lightning. Therefore, shooting lightning requires exposure time as long as 20 seconds or 30 seconds or using B-door mode to get the best shooting effect. If you want to shoot multiple lightning effects, you can extend the exposure time and keep the shutter open, so that a picture has a chance to capture more lightning.

6. Shooting lightning in the city is slightly different from the exposure skills in the wild. Although the artificial light source in the city can set off the blue and white light released by lightning well, long-term exposure will also overexpose the city lights. Therefore, controlling exposure is the key to shooting lightning well. On the basis of not losing the details of the highlight area of city lights, the exposure time should be set as long as possible, such as 10 second, and it is better to be slightly underexposed, and the specific exposure time should be adjusted according to the actual situation.

7. Because the brightness of lightning is much higher than the surrounding environment, if it is exposed normally according to the night sky and surrounding environment, it will lead to overexposure of photos. The correct exposure technique for shooting lightning is to expose for a long time, so that the ambient light is underexposed. For example, the normal setting is IS0 100, the aperture F 1 1, and the shutter is 30 seconds. At this time, the exposure is normal. We specially adjusted the aperture between F/ 16-F/22 to make the environment slightly underexposed. If there is no lightning, this exposure setting will only get slightly underexposed photos. When lightning occurs, it only accounts for a small part of the exposure time, such as 1 second in the 30-second exposure time, so the photo will not be overexposed. At the same time, lightning will briefly illuminate the surrounding landscape, so that the surrounding environment will not be underexposed.

8. Shooting lightning composition can refer to the three-point composition, so that the ratio of the sky to the ground is 2: 1, or even the ratio of the sky is higher, which can better represent the arc falling by lightning. Because lightning always extends downward, using vertical composition can make lightning fill the whole picture, better present its shape and make the picture look fuller. But we should also consider the unpredictability of lightning, which means that we need to be very lucky to capture the picture of lightning. Don't keep the composition unchanged. Taking more photos with different compositions will enrich your work.

9. There is no special rule about shooting lightning with a wide-angle lens or a telephoto lens. It depends on the direction and shape of lightning, but also on intuition. However, a slightly wider lens can give you more opportunities to capture multiple lightning in the picture and improve the success rate of shooting.

10. If the composition only contains lightning, the photo may become too monotonous. At this time, we try to add other elements as foreground and background to enrich the composition and highlight the three-dimensional effect of lightning. Such as skyscrapers, city night scenes, trees, landmark buildings, or lightning glare reflected from the water surface. Only by making full use of these foreground and background elements can we create impressive lightning photography.

1 1. Multiple exposures can be used to shoot lightning. First, shoot the ground scenery according to the normal exposure. Then, when lightning appears, a second exposure is made. If you think that there is not enough lightning in one picture at a time, and you want to increase the number of lightning, you can take multiple lightning photos at intervals, and then overlay them with PhotoShop software or manually overlay multiple pictures with layer mask.

12. Because shooting lightning requires a long exposure, you need a stable tripod and a remote controller or cable releaser. Determine the shooting position and angle of the camera. The camera is fixed on a tripod. Set the exposure time, interval time and number of photos, press the shutter, and then wait for lightning to appear. Although it is easy to use the interval shooting mode of electronic wire release, the lightning rejection rate is high.

13. Shooting lightning is the same as night view. We can add color to the night sky by adjusting the setting of white balance. Purple or blue sky can add different atmosphere to lightning photos. Of course, the best way is to shoot lightning in RAW format, and then adjust the white balance later.

14. Shooting lightning, another shooting method is triggered by light-controlled shutter, which can be bought from a third-party supplier, so brand promotion will not be done here. This kind of light-controlled shutter trigger is usually installed on the hot boots of the camera and connected with the shutter remote controller inside the fuselage. As long as the electronic sensor on the trigger senses lightning, it will take a picture for nothing according to the current exposure setting. The trigger's reaction speed is much faster than that of people, and it is a small expert at shooting lightning.
