Weirdcore (Chinese for strange core, dream core) is a kind of network aesthetic and artistic behavior.

Creating or editing amateur or low-quality photographs or digital pictures can make people feel confused, disoriented, alienated, nostalgic or incompetent. Strong feelings can be expressed visually. The appearance, format and feeling of general photos all existed on the old Internet, from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.

Amateur editing, original digital graphics, low fidelity photography and image compression are the most common elements in weirdcore images. Thematically, weirdcore often conveys a sense of fear, which is caused by the location or information where its low-quality images connect with ideas.

Weirdcore has a strong association reaction, which often depends on our life experience, but their association is not mandatory. The virtual part of an image is usually (but not always) represented as plain text.

The information it conveys is incomplete or out of context, so that the audience can (subconsciously) ask questions and make their own explanations for the meaning of the statement presented to them. However, you should know that these two "partial" weirdcore do not need to appear at the same time to form a good image.
