Do you know what SCI reviewers value

First of all, an SCI article attracts the reviewer's attention because the chart has become the only prominent and eye-catching place in the pure text article. Therefore, the writing of charts is the favorite content of SCI reviewers.

For the compilation of charts, we need to follow the following principles:

Rule 1: the form of the chart should be as simple as possible, and the problems contained should not be too clear about the problems to be expounded in the chart. Answer these questions directly in the title, footnotes or pictures, or indirectly by providing more background in the text. Complex charts should be arranged at the end of the paper as far as possible so that readers can understand them on the basis of some relevant knowledge. Illustrations with comparative or reference significance can be integrated into multiple subgraphs [(a), (b) and (c)] in the same drawing to reduce the complexity of text expression. If the number of illustrations (generally no more than 6) is specified in the journal, it should be strictly implemented;

Rule 2: The design of the chart should be based on the expression of the results, and accurately highlighting the author's contribution is the blank area in the paper, that is, the blank area in or around the chart is easy to attract readers' attention and reading. Therefore, the content and visual effect of the chart must be focused. As far as possible, use key charts to clearly express the representative contribution of the paper, and don't include too much information that doesn't belong to the work of this paper, so as to avoid the author's contribution drowning in the ocean of irrelevant details;

Rule 3: Choose the most appropriate expression form (illustration or table) according to the needs of data or opinion expression. The choice of tables or illustrations should depend on the needs of data expression. The advantage of tables is that they can easily list a large number of accurate data or materials, while graphics can express complex data intuitively and effectively. Therefore, if the emphasis is on showing accurate numerical values to readers, it will be in the form of tables; If we want to emphasize the distribution characteristics or changing trend of data, we should adopt the method of diagram, and we must avoid repeating the same data in the form of diagram and table unless the reason for repetition is necessary;

Rule four, the representation of the chart should take into account the reader's understanding level and should be "self-evident"

While observing the above principles, we also need to pay attention to avoid the following mistakes in making charts in SCI writing:

(1) The chart and text are duplicated. In SCI papers, the same content should not be repeatedly expressed in words, tables, statistical charts, etc., and an expression form should be selected according to the content needs. The principle in this respect should be: whatever can be clearly expressed in short words should not be expressed in figures and tables; Anything that can be expressed in a table at a glance needs no example. In order to facilitate readers to compare and understand accurate results, tabular form is appropriate.

(2) The numerical calculation in the table is inaccurate and the reserved digits are inconsistent. Whether the numerical value in the table is accurate is the key factor to determine the quality of the statistical table, and it is also the concrete embodiment of whether the scientific experiment results are rigorous. Because the data in the table is calculated from the original data, it is often not an integer. You should use the same decimal places. The significant digits of the same index number in the table should be consistent, and the insufficient part should be supplemented with "0". When calculating percentages, it should be noted that the sum of percentages should be 100%.

(3) The abbreviation, quantity and unit are not standardized. The names of indicators listed in the table should not be arbitrary, and fixed abbreviations should be used. Under special circumstances, when using unusual units and abbreviations, it should be explained in the table notes. All legal units of calculation in the table use symbols. Units should follow the naming principles of international standards. There should be a space between the number and the unit.

(4) The positions of grouped variables and observation indexes in the table are reversed, and the data are improperly arranged. The arrangement of data in the table should follow the principle of longitudinal arrangement of similar data. Improper arrangement will make it difficult to read the table and compare and understand the changing law.

(5) The notes on the desk are too complicated. The notes in the table are necessary supplements and explanations to the relevant contents in the table, and should be concise and to the point. If you have a lot to explain, you should move it to the text in front of the table and introduce it in words. The calculation formula of the data in the table should be introduced in the "Materials and Methods" part of the paper and should not be included in the table notes.

(6) List the original recorded data. Typical tables and charts summarize the results, and the original data in the research process do not need to be listed in tables. The data in the table should generally be statistically processed.

Secondly, the reviewers will formally read the contents of the article after a rough review of the chart contents in the SCI manuscript. In the content of SCI articles, the abstract of SCI is the first concern of reviewers. Because this part of the content is a high summary of the article. After reading this part, the reviewer can understand the main content of the article. Therefore, the quality of abstracts is also the key to the success of SCI.

When writing SCI abstracts, we need to reflect four points:

1, write the materials used in the text of the article and the brief treatment methods. Remember, don't treat most articles as abstracts. It mainly reflects the outline of the paper and does not need to be used as a detailed introduction. It concisely describes the materials used in the experiment and the indispensable or special treatment methods in the article, which attracts readers and increases the interest and readability of the article.

2. Important results are reflected in the abstract, such as factor analysis of multiple comparison results or variance results. The important results in this paper can be reflected in the abstract, which can tell the main idea of the article and give readers clear information at a glance. You can also briefly introduce the experiment and then list the analysis results, so as not to mislead the readers and leave too much suspense. Readers may dislike your article in advance because your abstract is too pedantic.

3. Finally, write some key meanings of this article. The part still needs to reveal the scientific research significance of the article, the value significance of the experiment, and reflect the particularity and discovery of the article. Readers first have a general understanding of the text through the abstract information, and they should carefully consider the interception of the abstract.

4. Just copy some important information of the results. The result part will be written at the end of the text expression, and it can also be used as a choice of abstract. The last sentence puts forward the significance and prospect of the experiment, even if it is completed.

Finally, in addition to the above charts and abstracts as the two most important points for reviewers to refer to an SCI, reviewers also pay attention to the writing of some contents. These contents include:

1, the title of SCI paper should be innovative and concise. Innovation is because the purpose of writing scientific and technological articles is to report new scientific and technological progress, and the lack of innovative factors will lose the significance of publishing. However, the application of innovation should be based on the existing scientific research results, and too much "innovation" may be counterproductive.

2. The experimental operation of 2.SCI paper writing should be true. When encountering the deviation found in the experimental data, we must not make subjective assumptions, but should completely follow the actual experimental results. Repeating experiments or increasing the number of samples is the way to get the best data. Even if there is a deviation between the expected experimental results and the actual experimental results, you should write an SCI paper according to the actual experimental results. Sometimes differences may also make this article the focus of debate and the highlight of the article.

3. Standardization and introduction of references in 3.SCI papers. Reference norms can help readers understand the basis of the article, and also show their accurate positioning of scientific research and respect for knowledge. It is suggested to use literature management software to edit references, which can avoid all kinds of details errors. The introduction of SCI should briefly introduce the important position of the development of scientific research content in this research direction.

4. The overall format of 4.SCI papers should be standardized. SCI papers have clear paragraphs and clear typesetting, which is conducive to the review of reviewers. Leave blank lines between paragraphs of SCI papers to make the articles look concise and clear. The text, title and references of SCI papers are distinguished by different fonts.
