Experience of using GH4 time-lapse photography function

Mirrorless interchangeable lens digital camera (commonly known as micro-single camera) has become a new trend in the digital imaging industry. Sony launched the Quan Huafu micro-camera last year, and the veteran manufacturer Leica has recently entered this field, which shows the potential of the whole market. Experience of using GH4 time-lapse photography function

GH4 has the function of time-lapse photography, which is very convenient to use, and there is no need to install additional cable releaser with time-lapse function. When shooting time-lapse photography, it is worth mentioning that GH4 has several advantages:

1. After setting shooting, the machine will instruct you whether to create a video format. You can choose the video format and parameters to provide a preview of shooting effect, which will bring convenience to post-production editing.

2.GH4 time-lapse photography also provides the function of pause or termination during shooting, and the pause function brings some convenient space for changing the position or angle of the same scenic spot. When the delayed shooting is terminated, it can also be converted to video format.

3.GH4 has two options: mechanical shutter and electronic shutter (Figure 4). In the case of aperture priority, for example, when the mechanical shutter is used to shoot the environment with large light changes, there will be serious flicker after synthesis, just like the previous energy camera, which needs software processing in the later stage. However, if the electronic shutter of GH4 is used, it will be natural for the light to be too strong, and the flicker phenomenon can be basically ignored. However, it should be noted that the minimum speed of the electronic shutter can only be 1 sec. If it is excessive from dusk to night, you should pay attention to this parameter to set the aperture and ISO.

4. A wide range of time-delay shooting, one at a time. At this time, the 2-second timer function of GH4 is very practical. By shooting regularly, the stability of the machine can be guaranteed, so there is no need to take the pay-off, and it is not convenient to adjust the alignment of the machine at each step under the condition of receiving and paying off the line. In addition, the balanced horizontal line of the display (Figure 5) plays a great role in ensuring the accuracy of large-scale time-delay shooting and positioning. This must be opened.

5. In use, I feel that GH4 has some shortcomings, except that the electronic shutter mentioned just now is only 1 sec, and the picture preview button on the fuselage is in the upper left corner, which is not very convenient to use. In addition, the noise is still a little high in backlight or low illumination environment. ISO below 800 is acceptable.

Configuration and performance of GH4 camera with time-lapse photography function

As mentioned earlier, Panasonic GH4 still uses M4/3 frame and16.05 megapixel sensor. The sensor is fine-tuned in hardware and equipped with the latest Venus 9 image processing engine, but compared with APS-C and Quan Huafu, it has no advantage in resolution and low sensitivity. Of course, through past experience, small format sensors can achieve faster focusing performance, and Panasonic has always had a good performance in photo clarity. In addition, GH4 can be widely compatible with a small number of M4/3 lenses such as Panasonic, Olympus, Sigma and Tuli, and the number of lenses actually exceeds that of Sony and Fuji's micro-single system.

In terms of ISO, Panasonic GH4 can natively support ISO 200 to 25600, but ISO 100 seems to be an extended option. Pay more attention to high feelings than low feelings? Suspected. In terms of focusing performance, Panasonic advertises that its 49-point autofocus system can achieve the fastest focusing of 0.07 seconds, which is 0.02 seconds higher than GH3. In addition, it can also realize the 7.5fps autofocus continuous shooting function. The manual focusing function has also been updated to support the peak focusing system of photos and videos, and realize real-time enlargement of the picture-in-picture view.

GH4 also has noise reduction function, which can set long exposure. In time-lapse photography, it is best to turn off this function. If this function is turned on, the longer the interval, the better, otherwise there will be a fight between noise reduction time and shooting time, because the machine will take a photo after noise reduction is completed.
