Is it more cost-effective to travel to Tibet with a group tour or by yourself?

I think traveling in a group is more cost-effective, more convenient and worry-free.

In fact, the local transportation is not that convenient (many scenic spots can be reached directly without a car). What many people call free travel is that you arrive at the local area and then sign up for a group tour to go where you want to go. This is not much different from signing up for a group tour.

As for joining a group? There are two ways: joining a group at the departure point and joining a group at the destination. Personally, I prefer joining a group at the departure point or signing up on a more reliable large platform. Because if there is something that needs to be complained later, some relatively formal large platforms will actually be stricter and more secure. But there will be more ways to choose from when traveling with a group at the destination.

The most important thing is to look at your own time and cost budget. If time is limited, there are more cost-effective group tours at the departure point. Then it is recommended to join the group directly from the departure point. Because I have been in Guangdong in the past few years, I often look at air tickets to and from Guangzhou, and I have seen some relatively cost-effective air tickets or group tours.

But it may be different in each place. I don’t know about other places outside Guangzhou. If you have more time, then it is better to experience it slowly. No matter what kind of trip it is, it is actually recommended to make a guide in advance, so that you know what you want to see.

Because of the convenience brought by work, it is easier for me to know the air ticket information from Guangzhou. I've done most of the local itineraries. I like hiking, going to temples, etc., so I basically won't join a group (unless the cost of going by myself is too high). Of course, if you are in urban Lhasa and you are not familiar with the local routes, joining a tour group is undoubtedly a time-saving and labor-saving option.
