Photographic structural skills: "blank" in the picture

Lead: Stripping a painting or a scene to the least elements is often a refreshing way of composition. I sometimes try to cram all the interesting things into the picture when shooting. The problem is that the more we fill the screen with all the objects, people, lines, shapes and so on, the more the audience will feel at a loss. Here are some examples of using minimalist composition to inspire you.

The picture above is one of a series of black and white works shot by photographer Brian Matiash on Staten Island. This series adopts minimalist composition. In addition, this photo is an example of successfully breaking the rules of composition and not putting the horizon in the middle of the picture. If this photo moves the horizon upward and contains more water, the reflection of the stake will completely enter the picture and the bottom will lose its center of gravity. On the contrary, if you eat too much sky, you will lose the interesting reflection on the water.

A few months after Mike Orbinski took this photo, the grandfather in the photo died. The little girl in his granddaughter's photo will always carry this photo. The exposure chosen by the photographer here only shows the details of the little girl, and only a few simple trees are used as decorations in the background. The whole picture is simple but not boring.

I took the last photo. When the eagle flew overhead, I immediately realized that it would be a good photo. I overexposed the picture, turned the sky into pure white, and then converted it into a black-and-white photo. Yes, I let the highlights overflow on purpose.
