Where is Lake Aiding?

Edincor L.

Aiding Lake (also known as Jueluohuan), with an altitude of 154m, is an inland saltwater lake, located in Chatkale Township, 50km south of Turpan, which is the lowest place in China and the second lowest place in the world. Aiding means the moon in Uighur. Lake Aiding means Moonlight Lake. Because most of the lake is a dry bottom, with waves of wrinkles, eyes full of silvery crystal salt, shining in the sun, just like the moonlight on a cold night, hence the name.

Lake Aiding was the product of Himalayan movement 249 million years ago. 1949, when there was much water, Aiding Lake was about 40 kilometers long from east to west and 8 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of about 152 square kilometers. According to aerial photography 1958, the lake is nearly oval, with a length of about 7.5 kilometers, a width of 3 kilometers, a water depth of less than 80 centimeters and an area of about 22 square kilometers. Aiding Lake consists of three parts, surrounded by a lake plain with a width of about 0.5- 1 km. This circle contains a lot of salt, and due to strong evaporation, a hard salt field is formed on the surface. The middle circle is a salt swamp, and the bottom is silt. The center of the lake is crystal clear white salt crystals. Aiding Lake is rich in salt and mirabilite, with a reserve of more than 300 million tons, which is an inexhaustible chemical raw material base. In order to develop the salt and mirabilite resources in Aiding Lake, 1959 built Qiquan Lake Chemical Plant. The refined salt, sodium sulfate and other products produced by this factory are exported at home and abroad and are well received by users.
