Xijiang Hideyoshi's Main Works

Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who is famous for his series Men and Women, has been demonstrating the conflict between soul and body by experiment at the age of 27, and has surpassed the fetters of ordinary secular life with the unique understanding of the orientals, thus completing a great leap in the field of human spirit. It is difficult to explore such a spiritual space by resorting to real images, so it is natural that the works constitute surreal dreamy colors. What really made him famous in Japan was a group of works "The Punishment of the Rose" which cooperated with the famous Japanese writer Yukio Mishima. "Rose Punishment" is a shooting task assigned by the Japanese publisher "Talk to the Society", which started on a certain day in September of 196 1. At that time, he was ordered to shoot the cover and frontispiece illustrations of Yukio Mishima's first commentary for Toastmasters-the editor told him by phone that Yukio Mishima specially appointed him to shoot, which flattered him. Next, he first took some portrait photos of Yukio Mishima, and then gradually developed them in a complicated and carefully arranged photographic set to explore a theme of life and death through Yukio Mishima's body and sensuality. These photos were first published in 1963 under the name of "killed by roses" and did not cause much response. After 197 1, a new book editor renamed it "Rose Punishment", the situation changed. Because just before this, 1970,165438+1October 25th, Yukio Mishima committed suicide by caesarean section-which also made this work famous.

In fact, as the photographer said, "How to express your memory by photography is actually a very interesting question. ..... photography can't be taken. But it can shoot the changes of things in time, which can evoke a memory, ... and reproduce a historical atmosphere. " Such a current historical atmosphere is changeable in the photographer's lens, which has caused the audience unspeakable confusion. Of course, as a photographer living in the East, the surreal mystery in his works is still quite implicit, but there is an invisible tension in it, which has left a deep impression on all audiences. The following is Hideki Hosokawa's self-report after filming "Punishment of the Rose", which may better understand the photographer's creation:

"Rose Punishment" is a shooting task assigned by Japanese publisher Talk Club, which started on a certain day in September of 196 1. I was assigned to photograph the cover and title page illustrations of Yukio Mishima's first critical collection, which will be published by Toastmasters. I want to know why I was assigned to complete such an important task. The editor called and told me that Yukio Mishima specially assigned me to shoot. ...

Some works in Punishment of the Rose were first exhibited in the group exhibition Nuns on June 1962 1, and were previously included in Tokyo Matsuya Department Store. Before the exhibition began, I asked Mishima to give me a title, and the next day he sent me a letter with eight optional titles, including Punishment of the Rose.

I took a fancy to the name "Rose Punishment" at first sight. From the point of view of form and pronunciation, the Chinese meaning of each word is very beautiful and fully expresses the content. Bara means rose kei, which means punishment. Literally means "the punishment of the rose". After consultation with Yukio Mishima, these works were first published in a book in June of 1963+0 with the English name "Killed by Roses".

I tried to explore a theme of life and death by photographing Yukio Mishima's body and body, but the idea was not so specific from the beginning. However, as Yukio Mishima wrote in the preface of his book, the most important elements of this theme appear in the last chapters of this book. In fact, my idea began to form bit by bit during the filming process, and my concept was clearly established at the end of the filming. The whole shooting process and concept formation process lasted from the autumn of 196 1 to the spring of 1962. When everything is specific, I know it's like the birth of a baby. I really want to film Yukio Mishima's youngest son, but I know it's impossible to get his permission. However, he did allow me to take an unknown child to his room as a model to cooperate with my shooting.

Although Punishment of the Rose is a documentary about life and death, the views on death mentioned in the book were taboo before the autumn of 1970. 1970 at the end of summer, we adjusted the order and layout of the photos and published them as the second edition. Mishima chose the title for each chapter, and named the last chapter death, and then asked my advice. I immediately accepted these suggestions, understood all this, and knew that the nature of the last chapter was morbid. Shortly after this decision, 1970+ 1654381October 25th, he committed suicide by caesarean section in Gong Yi highland.

The publication was cancelled that day, and I have no doubt that he is worried about absolute will. The publication of the new edition of "Punishment of the Rose" is a requiem dedicated to Yukio Mishima, showing his magnificent body and supreme strength at the age of 38. This is Yukio Mishima's perfect body, and he never admits the decline of his body.
