What is Haicheng like?

More than a decade ago, the International Ocean Expo opened in Okinawa, Japan. Who would have thought that the central venue was not located on land, but in a large marine building floating on the sea? Japanese people, marine experts and tourists from five continents went to visit with great interest. In six months, the audience reached 2 million.

The curator of this exhibition is 104m, with a width of 100m and a height of 32m. It is located on the coast of Okinawa, 400 meters offshore, and is connected to the land by a sea-crossing bridge. The exhibition hall is a semi-submersible marine building, which is divided into two parts, underwater and above water, and connected by large columns in the middle, with a displacement of up to 28 100 tons. Underwater hull can provide great buoyancy and support huge aquatic hull. The exhibition hall also has a submarine observation window, and the lights in the sea are bright, so the audience can enjoy the beautiful underwater world.

The exhibition hall is very spacious, can receive more than 2000 people at the same time, and has complete heating, refrigeration and air conditioning facilities. The weather in the museum is like spring, comfortable and pleasant. There are also living service facilities such as power generation, water supply and sewage treatment. The audience all admired: this is an unparalleled marine building at present, and it is simply an independent small city at sea!

With the expansion of ocean development, people will not only mine for oil in the deep sea, but also build large-scale nuclear power plants and seawater desalination joint ventures on the seabed. But how troublesome and time-consuming it is for workers in these factories and mines to commute between land and offshore, or even between ocean and deep sea!

In addition, raw materials and goods produced by marine enterprises should also have a transit station and then be transported to land continuously. So scientists came up with the idea of building a marine city.

The first idea is to build a city near an underwater mine with a diameter of about 1000 meters. One part of each building is built on water and the other part is built under water. The whole city can accommodate 5000 ~ 10000 people. In the city center, in addition to the green space with green trees and fragrant flowers, there are ports and docks for transport ships to dock, and platforms in the distance can be used for helicopters to take off and land.

The idea of another marine city is to build it on the high seas far from the coast. This is a circular building with a diameter of about 800 meters, surrounded by a solid concrete breakwater to prevent the impact of waves. In addition to roads, gardens, cinemas and stadiums, there are shops and factories on the water. Minerals developed in the deep sea and aquatic products harvested at sea are processed or shipped out here. But residential areas are special. It is a circular multi-storey building. Under the water, up to 30 meters deep, there are elevators and stairs in the center of each "building", leading to the water part of the city.

At present, the United States is building a maritime city in the Pacific Ocean not far from the Hawaiian Islands. It will be built on a reinforced concrete "floating boat" with a height of 70 meters and a diameter of 27 meters. It is planned to set up a power station and a fresh water device in the "floating ship", and the upper platform is a helipad. After the completion of this "maritime city", more than 654.38 million residents will move into their new homes.

Japan is also preparing to build offshore housing and put forward the plan of "Xiao Yun 200 1". The construction site is planned to be in Tokyo Bay, Chiba Prefecture. Inside, this is a 500-story maritime city with a height of 200 1 m, which can accommodate 300,000 people. Its total construction area is 1 1 ten thousand square meters. Because this maritime city is isolated from the inland, public facilities such as water, electricity and sewage will be self-sufficient, and tap water will be supplied through seawater desalination. Contact with the outside world will be solved by tunnels, railways, highways and high-speed ferries sailing at sea.

At present, architects and marine experts in some developed countries are making many grand and novel marine city plans. It is predicted that by the middle of the 20th century,110 of the world population will live in offshore buildings.

The Chinese nation with a long history has many bizarre and touching myths and legends. The development of cities and buildings at sea will make the fantasy of "Dragon Palace under the Sea" come true.
