Who knows the factory girl?
The Factory Girl begins with the narration of Edith Minton sedgwick in a medical rehabilitation center in her hometown of Santa Barbara. 1968. Edith under the lens is not the girl with exaggerated black eyeliner, big earrings, fashionable clothes and a dissolute life, but an ordinary girl who tries to get rid of drugs and dresses simply but elegantly. In front of the reporter, the former pop goddess talked about her luxurious and decadent life in the past, but she didn't have much pain, just looked indifferent. Edith in 1968 is only a 27-year-old woman, but her speech is beyond her actual age. A year later, Edith died of an overdose at the age of 28. 28 years old should be the climax of a woman's life, whether it is career, family or love. However, for Edith, the climax of her life came too early, but it was short. After the glorious moment, it is a sad ending. This woman, who once led the fashion trend in the 1960s, sadly became the cultural symbol of the art world and fashion world. Nowadays, we can only see her shadow on the runway of fashion magazines, and those clothes that belong to the atmosphere of the 1960 s occasionally remind people of her. In this film which shows Edith's miserable life, we see two important people who influenced her life, two people who attracted countless spotlight in new york in 1960s. One is andy warhol, and the other is Bob Dylan. These two men, who belong to the art world and the rock world respectively, are the most important passers-by in Edith's short life, but they also leave in a hurry. No matter what future generations think of these two people, whether they are really responsible for Edith's death or not, it is undeniable that they destroyed Edith while creating her. Andy warhol was an iconic figure in the American art world in 1960s, a pioneer of underground film directors, painters and publishers, and a representative of the "popular culture" movement. His lifestyle and artistic creation made him a star artist at that time, surrounded by all kinds of flattery and countless spotlights in the entertainment circle. His yellow-white hair, pure black sunglasses, always pale and expressionless face, lazy tone. Make yourself a work of art, an eye-catching package. The factory, the art workshop he set up, gathered all the strange people of that era, rebellious art students, obscure little painters, all kinds of actors and models eager to be famous from him, rock bands, creators of underground movies, and people who had nothing to do with art at all, such as homosexuals, drug addicts and all kinds of perverts. This art workshop has become a camp of unfamiliar social circles, where decadent life began. In the film history, there are 12 films related to Andy Warhol. We can't say who plays Andy best, guy pearce, Andy's actor, or other actors. Andy warhol himself is a cold work of art, so only he can play himself well in this world. In this film, Andy himself and his creation and life are just a background. The most important thing is how he created Edith and how he destroyed it. His indifference and cruelty, as well as the hypocrisy of the whole art world, better reflect Edith's tragic fate in this film. It can be said that Edith was so curious when she first entered such a circle and walked into these unscrupulous people. As an art college student who just graduated from Cambridge, Edith is eager to have such an artistic environment to stimulate creative inspiration. Andy's appearance completely changed her life plan. From painter to model to actor, Andy regards her as a beautiful work of art, but Edith is excited but immature under the light in front of the camera. Edith's fatal wound is that she is too credulous and naive. This film has always emphasized this point, which is also the key reason for Edith's tragic ending. What she wants from Andy is not wealth and fame, but love, love from friends. Therefore, Edith tried to blend in with the people around her, gain their trust and care, and even injected heroin. Edith came from a cold and rich family and was sexually harassed by her father when she was eight years old. The family with a history of mental illness caused her two brothers to die one after another. Edith is afraid of loneliness and isolation, so she trusts Andy, everyone around her and devotes herself wholeheartedly to their world. In Edith's mind, Andy is not only a friend, but also a father. When faced with Andy's indifference and abandonment, Edith will do those extreme behaviors and be so desperate. Bob Dylan, a famous rock musician, led the trend of folk songs in American rock circles in the last century and was the "only man who really loved" in Edith's short life. The name in this movie is Danny Quinn. Danny, who only met several times, hit Edith's heart on the nail, and then he had an uncontrollable passion. If the film is in a vague and smoky atmosphere most of the time, then the color of two people fleeing together and sleeping together is very warm and clear, which is in sharp contrast with the dissolute life on the set. The sex scene between them is also handled beautifully. In fact, when Andy was ready to abandon Edith, Danny was her only lifeline. Danny loves Edith, but he is disappointed because Edith is stubborn to Andy. The choice in front of the elevator left Edith with eternal regret. If I had chosen to go with Danny, Edith might still be alive. Maybe she could be the wife of an ordinary rock star and have a happy family and children. This film is not a successful and standard biographical film, but a film that truly shows the extravagant life of Edith and Andy after they met. The story between fiction and reality is full of angry accusations from the director. This beautiful pop goddess, like a moth to a fire, is full of courage in any case, but she is also doomed to pay a painful price. No matter whether the brilliant fireworks left only the dark night sky or the figure that passed away in a hurry, the westerner lay on the ground and looked back, leaving only the traces of time, without her rash traces. She is destined to be a broken lifeline in the palm of her hand and a brilliant goddess tied to that moment.
