Japanese TV series "Reversal": What are the ingenious details?
Then I briefly reviewed it. I feel that I have overlooked many ingenious details before, so I decided to write another short article to share with you. Improper place, still hope to correct me.
Shen Se is a very ordinary person with no sense of existence. He has no special skills and was repeatedly rejected in the interview. Although I graduated from a famous university, I can only work in an obscure small company and feel at ease as a clerk.
But he has a "feverish" hobby: he likes coffee.
It is this seemingly ordinary hobby that almost runs through the plot development of the whole story and profoundly affects the fate of the protagonist.
Because of his love and research on coffee, colleagues and friends around him like to drink coffee ground by himself, which has almost become the "only" thing worth talking about in Shense. He also often regards coffee as his hospitality, as the best way to express his concern, and as a link to get along with others in harmony and establish contact.
With this hobby as the premise, the narrative of the story naturally leads to a seemingly narrow but important venue: the four-leaf clover cafe. It is not only the place where the hero and heroine meet, but also the beginning of the "strange" stories that happened one after another in the future, which laid a far-reaching foreshadowing for the later "plot reversal"
In a conversation with the proprietress of a coffee shop, the protagonist tells her secret recipe for brewing coffee: adding some honey to coffee can make the taste more mellow.
This seemingly dispensable daily chat, perhaps few people would think of it, is also the foreshadowing of the playwright, and we have to sigh the playwright Kanae Minato's ability to control the overall situation of the story.
In the whole drama, the most common look is: wearing a pair of glasses, carrying a backpack, wearing a plaid shirt, and the top button of the shirt is always buttoned. This is in stark contrast to Murai's suit and tie, humble scholar temperament and simple and capable valley prototype.
Tatsuya Fujiwara, the hero of Look, has no outstanding appearance and facial features. Perhaps the director just took advantage of this feature to make it more suitable for the role setting of the hero Shense:
In the opening episode 1, there is such a detailed description:
A similar scene also appeared in the third episode:
And this scene happened to be seen by the hostess.
Although these are only two fleeting seconds, they show the other side of the hero from the side: honesty, kindness and helpfulness.
It is this "harmless" role setting that not only guides the audience's attention and thinking direction, but also becomes the stimulating point of conflicts and contradictions in the whole story.
The appearance of Miho brought new hope to Shense's life, but it also caused great waves to his peaceful life.
Deep wrasse never dreamed that he could meet a beautiful, smiling and gentle Miho and successfully associate with him. He felt that this was a gift from God, which rekindled his love and hope for life.
However, with the occurrence of a series of "strange events", a truth buried for 10 years began to be stripped off layer by layer, and every time they approached the truth, it became an insurmountable obstacle on their emotional road. When Miho found out that her boyfriend might be a "murderer", she was very depressed and began to question. When her boyfriend admitted to hiding some truth from the police for his own sake before 10, her inner beautiful world began to collapse.
The greatest pain in love is that the person you love is not trustworthy. So she chose to separate.
Their feelings are intertwined, which is closely related to the truth that their friend died unexpectedly from a tree 10 years ago. The latter is the secretive past, and the former is the present and future of honest treatment. Two people and things in different time and space meet and interweave here, and the contradiction between them is doomed to be irreconcilable.
In the eighth episode, there is the biggest reversal of the drama, and the author uncovers a terrible truth for us: Miho, the current girlfriend with good looks, turned out to be the ex-girlfriend of the best-looking friend Yusuke, who died unexpectedly 10 years ago. It was she who "directed" various threats before and almost killed Tanihara's good friend.
This time, everything in his spiritual world collapsed: the cruel reality pushed him from a happy paradise to a terrible hell in an instant.
Meiwa also chose to leave again on the grounds of "cheating and losing face".
I think this role setting is a great "painstaking effort" of the author. It not only gives a seemingly dramatic but actually reasonable explanation to all kinds of "strange things" that are difficult to distinguish between true and false, but also brings a huge impact to the spiritual world skillfully constructed by the author for the audience before, thus pushing the whole play to a climax.
However, the plot did not come to an abrupt end. After all, the mystery of the death of trees before 10 has not been solved.
Shense chose to forgive Miho, so they went back to the four-leaf clover cafe where they had met. I thought there would be some old happy endings. However, when the fast-paced and tense theme song sounded again, the plot took a bigger turn:
This is undoubtedly the author Kanae Minato's "more malicious" stroke, which makes all seemingly insignificant plot fragments and fleeting conversations all strung together at once: it may be just a simple conversation, it may be just an unremarkable news announcement, and it may be a shot of a similar scene. ...
These are ingenious details that can be seen everywhere in inversion and are easily overlooked. It is they who make this play worth pondering again and again.
