Portrait photography skills in low light environment

Lead: How to shoot a good portrait in low light? I'll give you some advice. Let's have a look!

1. Dense forest light and shadow

In a real dense forest, no matter how sunny it is, the light that can directly reach the ground through layers of trees is limited. This kind of weak light environment is special, because the light intensity is not constant in natural environment, so if there are shadows and strong light in the picture at the same time, we should pay attention to exposure to avoid the influence of excessive light ratio on the image quality.

Be flexible when choosing the scene, and you can bring some props such as cigarette cakes. For example, the effect of the picture below is to create a mystery through the smoke effect.

2. Color tension

Speaking of color, it seems difficult to stand out strongly in low light environment. But today we will introduce such a method, that is, projector portrait. Weak light is not good at expressing color, but projecting the background through the projector can change the environment. Obviously, this method is much more obvious than simply adding a color film to a limited light source.

However, when using the projector to shoot portraits, we must pay attention to the fact that the model's face should not overlap with the overly complicated image, and some simple parts should be kept in the picture.

3. Environmental Portrait

Some environmental figures should also be involved in low-light environments, such as bars, cafes and other emotional indoor places. Then make full use of the light according to the site environment. In some circumstances, the light is acceptable, and the scene light is enough to shoot high-quality works. However, in some circumstances, it is necessary to bring some low-power flashlights to properly fill the model's face or body without destroying the direction of light and shadow at the scene.

But remember not to completely change the scene lighting environment, otherwise the ambient light itself will lose its meaning and become neither fish nor fowl.

4. Fake documentary

In this case, the weak light environment, in fact, the light and shadow are relatively simple, basically relying entirely on some natural light scattered by the window. The style is quiet and simple, with the flavor of documentary. This kind of film is slightly darker in color, but visually full, because it is not a simple dark picture.

You can use the place with light as a visual outlet, and control the examples and degrees well, which will make the picture particularly attractive. The most important thing is that the performance of the model should be natural and lively, so as to highlight the thickness of the work.

5. Artistic treatment

The low-light portrait in this small environment may be that the light source is just a desk lamp, so I won't say much about lighting control. What I want to say is that simple artistic treatment of samples can be tried more.

The portrait works in the picture were originally mediocre, but after some soft focus treatment of the picture, plus the model's dress and retro color matching, it can be regarded as a tasteful little movie. It is different from the complex environment, but it has a unique flavor.

6. underwater portrait

There are two main types of underwater portraits now. One is real underwater photography. Photographers and equipment have to go through precise processing and preparation before they can go into the water with the model. In this case, they actually rely more on natural light. The other is that the model is actually in a large glass jar within a certain range, and the photographer completes the lighting outside and shoots through the glass.

Underwater portraits are included in low-light photography because it is difficult to control the light in either case. Moreover, through the refraction of water, light will also be affected by some images, so we must deal with the light problem and try more.

7. night elves

Can I shoot without natural light and ambient light? The answer is yes. But you don't need many flashlights and modeling lights. In fact, you only need such a simple prop in the picture. Full of low light environment, but the picture is not monotonous, but full of interest, some like fireflies in the night, like night elves set off the model.

This completely artificial prop environment can actually make very wonderful works. Is it particularly emotional? It is best to use a tripod to increase stability, otherwise such a weak light environment will definitely affect the clarity of the picture.
