Did you fall into these misunderstandings in the later stage of photography?

Photography is an art.

There are no fixed formulas and parameters in the later stage of photography.

however

Many people are learning photography.

There will be some incorrect habits and concepts.

I have summarized several common misunderstandings here.

The photos used in this paper are all from the Internet, only for the photos themselves, not for photographers.

1, abusing HDR effect

Many photographers will pay attention to the details of pictures, especially some advertising photographers, which is an essential skill. However, many photographers are obsessed with details, and the abuse of HDR is more common.

This heavy HDR effect will only make the photo lack of layering and the color is "dirty".

Excellent HDR works are shown below. There are details in the darkness, but there are still layers. There is no white edge in the transition of the character edge, and the overall color of the photo is also very uniform.

Similarly, successful landscape HDR works are just the right details.

The main reason for this effect is that in Photoshop, some people will pull down the contrast and sharpness sliders to the highest level in order to fully show the details, as shown in the following figure.

2. Abuse of movie curve

Through the curve, we can simulate the tone of the film, as shown below, which is the most typical film curve.

By analyzing this curve, we can draw a conclusion that its highlights are slightly dark and the shadows are gray, which reduces the dark details. If this texture is used properly, it can increase the atmosphere of the photo. But it doesn't mean that this kind of curve can produce film texture, and it can "eat the world with one stroke".

In fact, some photos are not suitable for this curve, as shown below: the contrast between the characters in the dark and the surrounding environment is small. After using the film curve, the details are seriously missing and the picture looks boring.

What will happen if you try again with a comparison chart?

The characters and the environment are distinct and the contrast is great. After using the film curve, the subject details are not affected, and the texture of the photo is also improved.

3. Extreme sharpening

The purpose of sharpening is to improve the details of the picture properly and make the photos clearer. However, once it is over-sharpened, the photos will lose details and appear a lot of noise.

Sharpening amount 100% (left), sharpening amount 50% (right)

It can be seen that the highly sharpened photos are noisy, but the details are lost.

The above summarizes three common misunderstandings in the later stage of photography: abuse of HDR effect, abuse of film curve and extreme sharpening. To avoid such mistakes in the later period, of course, the most important thing is to improve the aesthetic and retouching level.

Life is too short and life is too precious.

Do what you like.

I won't give up for the rest of my life. ......
