This line is the earliest Tang-Xu railway in China (189 1), and gradually expands to the east to connect the Jingha line, Ji Shen line and Shendan line. It is connected to Beijing-Harbin line in the west, along which there are Dazheng line, high-tech line and Jincheng line. It is the main transportation channel inside and outside the customs, and plays an important role in communicating materials in and out of the customs and developing the national economy.

Shenshan line is one of the lines with the highest cargo flow density. 1983 actually completed the cargo flow density of 37 million tons/km, and handled 1 10 trains day and night, with an average of one train passing every 22 minutes. The southbound materials of this line are mainly steel, machinery, wood, coal, cement and petroleum. The goods flow northward is mainly ore, grain, coal and light industrial products.

After liberation, the Shenshan Railway was reformed, the flood of the railway was eradicated, the double track was built, and all automatic blocking equipment was installed, which greatly improved the quality and passing capacity of the railway. The laying of seamless long rail lines has increased the allowable running speed of trains from 90 kilometers in the past to 160 kilometers.

The main line of Shenshan Line is 423 kilometers long, and the total length of catenary is 1.543 kilometers, which mainly includes the electrification project of Shanhaiguan Hub and Shanhaiguan-Shenyang Hub. With the completion of the electrification reconstruction project of Shenshan Line and the transfer of passenger transport function to Qinhuangdao-Shenyang section of Beijing-Harbin Line, Shenshan Line will gradually change from mixed passenger and freight trains to the main entrance and exit channel with both freight and passenger transport.
