Jinjiang station, once a first-class station, is the gateway station to and from Panzhihua and the main distribution point for Panzhihua passengers. Named after the opening of chengdu-kunming railway 1970.
At that time, there was no official information to explain why it was named Jinjiang, but there was a saying that it was named Jinjiang because the Jinsha River passed through the city.
Panzhihua was first called "Panzhihua Special Zone", and later it was named "Dukou City" for the sake of confidentiality. 1987 was renamed as "Panzhihua City". Traditionally, when the city is called Dukou City, the city-level gateway station should be named as "Dukou Station", but Panzhihua has always used the name of "Jinjiang Station" and "Dukou Station" has always been a small station on the ferry branch line.
Because of Jinjiang Railway Station, that area was named "Jinjiang Area" in Panzhihua's earliest urban construction plan, and it was also one of the earliest eight areas in Panzhihua. Even the nearby towns and villages are named jingjiang town. At that time, Dukou Shipyard was also used to be called Jinjiang Shipyard because it was in that area, and later it was called Jinjiang Machine Repair Factory after being placed under Panzhihua Iron and Steel Company.
