Introduction to Bill Brandt
Bill Brandt was born on May 3, 1904 in Hamburg, Germany. The son of a banking family. In 1931 he came to England for the first time, lived in Davos and Vienna and in sanatoriums in Paris, and worked as Man Ray's assistant. His ambition was to become an independent professional photographer, and he published his first book, The English Athome, in 1936.
