How are the blue tears in Xiamen formed?

Blue tears are a poetic description of some luminous phenomena of marine life, such as noctiluca scintillans red tide in the ocean.

When the noctilucent algae red tide breaks out, you can see the beautiful "blue fluorescence" on the sea at night. With the ups and downs of the waves, it is like the sea leaving crystal blue tears.

When noctiluca scintillans is strongly disturbed by waves and boating, luciferase in its cytoplasm can catalyze the reaction between fluorescein and oxygen to produce oxygen-containing fluorescein, and produce light blue luminescence in the process of releasing energy. When the density of noctiluca in seawater is high, the light blue light will gather together to form "blue tears" visible to the naked eye!

There are two main types of fluorescent seas:

One is the long-term stable fluorescent sea, such as Mosquito Bay in Vieques Island, Puerto Rico; The other is the unstable fluorescent sea, which can't last long, and the time and sea area of occurrence are not easy to determine.

In the unstable fluorescent ocean, noctiluca flagellata, which has luminous ability, can't carry out photosynthesis. When its number reaches more than 0/000 per milliliter of seawater, it will form a "red tide".

This kind of scenery shows that the content of phosphorus, potassium, iron and other nutritional factors in this seawater is rising, which is the performance of seawater eutrophication. Therefore, although this fluorescent sea is beautiful, it is not good for nature. After a trip to Xinghai where light and shadow interact, we should pay more attention to the protection of the ocean.
