Author: Among the photos of old Jinan that Cheng saw, I especially like the photos taken by hedda morrison. She focuses on the lives of ordinary people in Jinan and shows the unique features of old Jinan. Heda Morrison (1908- 199 1) was born in the southwestern German city of Stuttgart. 1929 to 193 1 studied photography in Munich and worked as a photography assistant after graduation. 1933 hedda Morrison came across an advertisement in a photography magazine: a German-run Harbin photo studio in Beijing, China wanted a female photographer who could speak English, French and German. So she came to China not far from Wan Li and Wan Li to apply for this position, and started her career as a photographer in Beijing. In Beijing, hedda morrison manages a dozen China employees in the photo studio, and her work and life are very comfortable. The unrestrained life made her like the land and people here. In the following 13 years, when she came to Beijing, she took a Sofilai dual-lens reflex camera with her, traveled all over the streets and places of interest in Beijing and its surrounding areas, and took more than 654.38+00000 negative photos. These negatives and more than 6,000 photos she printed were all donated to the Yanjing Library of Harvard University. Besides Beijing, Heda Morrison has been to many places, such as Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi, Zhengding, Baoding and Rehe in Hebei, Huashan in Shaanxi, Jinan, Tai 'an, Weihai, Qingdao, Nanjing and Hong Kong in Shandong. Similarly, the natural scenery, scenic spots and historical sites, and street customs of these places also entered her lens. Heda Morrison has been to Jinan several times, but I haven't seen the relevant records. From 65438 to 0942, Heda Morrison made a trip to Shandong, visited Jinan, Tai 'an, Qufu and other places, and took many photos, including a group of photos of Jinan scenery, which recorded the city appearance, places of interest and historical sites and the life scenes of citizens in Jinan. Most of the photos were taken in Qushuiting Street, moat, city wall and Lingyan Temple. Qushuiting Street in Jinan is undoubtedly the street with the most Jiangnan characteristics. On this street, the water flows on the street, and the streets are on both sides of the water. The Qushui River formed by the confluence of springs not only brings convenience to the residents, but also brings endless happiness and interest. Hedda morrison focuses on this street, and the street view style is instantly fixed on the picture: neighbors gather in the street, or stand on the street to chat, or sit under the tree to enjoy the cool, or squat by the river to watch the grass swimming in the water; The old man sits on the street to take care of the children playing, and the young daughter-in-law washes clothes by the river-this photo is not big, but there are nearly 40 characters in it: the old man, the middle-aged man and the children. More interestingly, there is a man in a suit and tie and a woman in a cheongsam in the picture. They stand out among the citizens wearing white shirts and blue pants. The scenery on the street also has its own characteristics: a leafy old willow stands by the river, there are several simple stone bridges made of long stones on the river, clear springs flow, and the stone road has been trampled by pedestrians. The yard of the house facing the street is uneven, and a pergola made of purlins covers the shade-the whole street is uneven, but it is patchwork and not magnificent. The moat in old Jinan has now become a park around the city. Although this river is still a spring where many springs meet, it is no longer what it used to be. 1942 The moat under the lens of Heda Morrison is another scene: the water in the moat is not big, a clear water flows slowly in the middle of the river, several middle-aged men stand by the river to brew bean sprouts and wash vegetables, and women wash clothes by the river; Several children of three or four years old followed the adults to the river and stood there playing-there were many figures and objects in the picture, which were miscellaneous but not chaotic. The big crock for soaking bean sprouts, wicker baskets for containing bean sprouts and vegetables, cattail bags, baskets for selling vegetables and bean sprouts (Jinan people called them shoulder poles and shoulder poles), and hand-made two-wheeled trolleys were all placed in the middle of the river and on the banks of the river. People's clothes are more characteristic of that era. Blue and white are the main colors, either black coat and black pants (black is also called blue), or white coat and black pants, and the shoes are blue-faced cloth shoes sewn by ourselves. People who wash bean sprouts and vegetables stand barefoot in the water and cloth shoes are placed by the river. The most interesting thing is that I saw a wooden stick used by women to beat clothes from the photo. In Jinan, Heda Morrison visited Baotu Spring, Daming Lake and Black Tiger Spring, came to the moat and above the city wall, and photographed the market on both sides of the road in front of Qilu General Workshop, the roads and pedestrians on the city wall of Jinan, the pavilions and boats in Daming Lake, the stupa of Lingyan Temple, a famous maritime temple, and 40 colorful clay arhats in the Thousand Buddha Hall. In a word, the photos of Jinan amorous feelings taken by Heda Morrison record the quaint features of old Jinan and the life scenes of ordinary citizens, which is a true portrayal of Jinan's social life in the 1940s. If Liu E and Lao She wrote vivid life scenes of old Jinan with their pens, then Heda Morrison recorded the light and shadow of old Jinan with his lens.
