Why are there blocks A, B, C, D and F on the high-speed rail, but there is no block E?

The high-speed train has seats A, B, C, D and F, but there is no seat E, because the high-speed train cancels the seat in the middle position, which improves the ride comfort and space utilization. High-speed rail canceled 1 middle seat. If the letters A, B, C, D, E and F are used, one letter will be missing, and E just stands for the middle position, so it will be cancelled naturally.

Friends who often take the high-speed train may find a very interesting phenomenon: the seats of the high-speed train have A, B, C, D and F, but there is no E.

Then the question is coming. Why?

First of all, we have to start with the structure of high-speed rail. China high-speed railway adopts standard rail, that is, the railway track with the spacing of 1435mm, which directly determines the passing capacity of high-speed railway.

Generally speaking, the length of high-speed trains is about 209m, the car body width is 3360mm, and the car height is 4050 mm. The formation form is 8 cars with a capacity of 556 people.

Because airplanes appeared earlier than high-speed trains, an "international convention" was formed with airplanes as reference objects, because most of the early airplanes were single-aisle, with six seats in each row, namely A, B, C, D, E and F, where A and F represent windows, C and D represent aisles, and B and E represent middle positions.

However, the problem is that the high-speed rail is not as spacious as the plane. There should be an aisle about 1 m in the middle, and six seats should be set in succession, so it is probably impossible to sit down and experience the ride. If only four seats are arranged in a row, the comfort will be improved, but the space resources will be wasted.

Therefore, the high-speed train made a compromise and adopted the "3+2" mode. Second-class carriages with five seats in each row and three seats on one side, corresponding to letters A, B and C; There are two seats on the other side, only by the window and by the aisle, and there is no middle position, so it corresponds to the letters D and F.

In other words, compared with the airplane, the high-speed rail cancels 1 middle seat, which means one letter is necessarily missing, and E just stands for the middle position, so it is naturally cancelled.

It is worth mentioning that the first-class car adopts the "2+2" mode, that is, there are two seats on both sides, B and E are removed at the same time, and there is no position in the middle, only A, C, D and F.

Because of this, the seat spacing of first-class seats is about108cm ~116cm, and the seat spacing of second-class seats is only 86cm~ 102cm. No matter the spaciousness, softness or comfort of the seats, the first-class car far exceeds the second-class car, which is why the fare of the first-class car is a little higher than that of the second-class car.
