Green screen special effects appeared in the 1990s.

1925, "Dunning Blue Screen Technology" was born. This technology uses color lighting equipment to make the background appear blue and the foreground appear yellow, and then through rendering and filter processing, the foreground and background are separated, thus forming a dynamic mask. 1933 This technology was first applied in the movie King Kong.

1950 began to apply sodium lamp shielding technology, so it is also called "yellow curtain" technology. The yellow curtain technology will make the foreground, including actors, in a normal lighting environment, while the sodium lamp (that is, the orange street lamp we usually see on the street) will illuminate the white background board with strong light. The average wavelength of light emitted by sodium lamps is 589.3 nm. After special filter processing, this wavelength will be stripped to black and white film, making it easy to distinguish the foreground picture from the dynamic mask.

Based on the accumulation of the above technologies, digital green screen technology began to rise in an all-round way in the 1990s. Because digital photography has gradually replaced the old-fashioned film photography, and many digital photographic equipment are more sensitive to green, it will be more convenient to shoot and make moving masks under the background of green screen. Green screen technology can accurately strip the foreground and background, greatly reducing the time of special effects production. So now movie special effects artists prefer to use green screen technology.

At the beginning of this century, the green screen technology has been very mature, and most films will use this technology when shooting, but it is limited to this. Many times, green screen technology is still a professional thing, which is mostly used in movies and TV programs, and it is difficult for ordinary people to contact with it. It was not until the rise of live broadcast that green screen technology began to "fly into the homes of ordinary people".
