Behind-the-scenes story of Huang Yangchuan

The documentary "Huangyangchuan" filmed by Liu Song, the best director of Taiwan's Golden Bell Award, took five years to go deep into the hinterland of Gansu Province and made a breathtaking beauty of the yellow land. Liu Song made this film completely subtitle-free, narration-free, and story-free, and only relied on the music of Chen Kaiyou, a local blind singer in Huangyangchuan, to run through the whole film and connect more than a dozen small fragments of ordinary life in series. Liu Song visited this place sponsored by Wen Shiren while filming Wen Shiren's documentary Science and Technology Ranger-Wen Shiren, a late entrepreneur and former president of Inventec. He deeply felt that the local life style was still maintained hundreds of years ago, and the residents were mainly agricultural, which was not polluted by modern civilization because of low development. The attitude of residents and the local nature merged into a very special landscape. Therefore, the documentary "Huangyangchuan" was proposed and supported by Tomorrow Studio founded by Wen Shiren. The film was successfully finished, which seemed to reflect Wen Shiren's feelings in Huangyangchuan at that time. Liu Song said that during the planning process, the customs of Huangyangchuan repeatedly shocked him; At first, he didn't know anything about taking photos of the old people before they died. He just found out why people who came from other places and had photographic equipment were always asked to take pictures of the old people at home. He felt that it was just a little effort and he was able to shrug off it. Later, he found that every time he took pictures, the locals not only wanted them to take pictures of the elderly, but also wanted to take pictures of the whole family. When taking pictures, they also moved out all the wedding joy and various wedding props. At that time, they thought it was a happy event. Until later, Liu Song was shocked to find a coffin in a family's barn. After careful inquiry, we know that Huangyangchuan area is in severe cold for half of the year. If the old man leaves temporarily, it will be troublesome for the whole family. So they would rather prepare the affairs of the elderly at home at a time when the economy is well-off, even if the old man's bones are still tough. The film also shows Huangyangchuan women gathering outside the courtyard to sew shoes during the slack season. In the film, children are seen wearing these cloth shoes, and they have to climb from one hill to another in order to go to school. Liu Song said that although the local area was poor, he saw the local people's self-respect.
