Isabelle Huppert’s social activities
In 1994, Huppert was invited to guest edit the March issue of the French film magazine Cahiers du Cinema, and personally interviewed many of her favorite people, including writer Nathalie Salote, Philosopher Baudrillard, directors Philippe Garrel and Maurice Pialat. It is the only time in its fifty-year history that an actress has edited an entire issue of such a prestigious film academic journal.
As part of the 2009 Sino-French Cultural Spring project, UCCA exhibited "Isabelle Huppert - Woman in Portrait" in June 2009. This wonderful photography exhibition with multiple connotations was held for the first time in China at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York. The exhibition brings together 100 photos and videos created by world-class photographers specifically for French actress Isabelle Huppert. As highlights of the trip to China, new photos of the actress taken by young Chinese artists Yang Fudong and Shi Xiaofan will be on display.
The works of photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edouard Boubat, Nan Goldin, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Robert Franck, Philip-Lorca DiCorcia, Roni Horn, Juergen Teller, Helmut Newton, Robert Wilson and others were inspired by Pepe. I have played various varied, challenging and explosive roles. Their works also give this exhibition the character of a tribute to Huppert's 30-year film career. "Isabelle Huppert - Woman in Portrait" has been exhibited many times in well-known art institutions, including: Cordelier Abbey in Paris, C/O Gallery in Berlin, Botanical Garden Gallery in Madrid, Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo, and Exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum, The Hague, Netherlands until June 17, 2007. The exhibition has aroused widespread public interest and attention, with more than 250,000 visitors to date, and has been hailed as "the history of portrait photography over the past 25 years."
As one of the activities of the China-France Cultural Year, the exhibition is sponsored by the French Embassy in China and produced by Joany Edition. The Sino-French Cultural Spring has been organized by the French Embassy since 2006, with the purpose of promoting Sino-French cultural cooperation and exchanges.
