What are the common positions for X-ray examination?

According to the specific situation of patients, the position of projection or the number of films taken in X-ray examination is determined. Because X-ray plain film is a composite image of all organs and tissues overlapping before and after, in order to clearly show the lesions, it is usually necessary to use a fixed position and angle for projection examination. Individual circumstances require taking photos in special locations.

The most common positions are:

Anterior and posterior position: X-ray direction is taken from the front to the back of the patient, such as the examination of ulna and radius, humerus, bone and joint, scapula, tibia and fibula, ankle joint, knee joint, pelvis, abdomen and other parts, which are often used.

Anterior and posterior position: X-ray direction is opposite to anterior and posterior position. Such as sternum, chest, gallbladder, wrist joint, gastrointestinal radiography, etc.

Right anterior oblique position: X-ray projection from the left back to the right front of the patient, such as the projection of esophagus and heart.

Left anterior oblique position: the X-ray direction is taken from the right back to the left front of the patient, such as heart disease examination,

Left position: X-ray direction is taken from the right side to the left side of the patient, such as chest lateral projection.

Right position: the X-ray direction is opposite to the left position, which is used for lateral projection of chest or gallbladder lesions.

Axial position: the x-ray direction is almost parallel to the long axis of the body, such as patella, calcaneus, elbow joint, nasal bone and clavicle.

Supine position: the patient lies flat with his back down, such as the projection of the anterior and posterior position of the spine and the anterior and posterior position of the chest.

Prone position: the patient's face and chest lie flat, such as the projection of the front and back position of the head.

In addition, there are many common positions, such as lateral position, supine position, tangent position, right posterior oblique position, left posterior oblique position and so on.
