What does lut mean?

The literal translation of lut means list.

1 is short for LUT (look-up table). Sometimes we also call it (color lookup table), (color correspondence table) and so on.

2.LUT can be regarded as a function. After the color information of each pixel is relocated by LUT, a new color value can be obtained.

3. When the work is output through LUT, it will show different colors. To some extent, they are similar to the filters of some image processing software, but their algorithm logic is different.

4. LUTs can be divided into 1DLUT and 3DLUT. 1DLUT is very suitable for setting contrast, detecting display white point or adjusting the overall color balance, but in the field of color matching that needs to express the complexity and accuracy of color, 1DLUT is somewhat inadequate.

Practical application of LUT;

1. Color calibration of display equipment.

2. In the process of display calibration, the color management program needs to load the correct calibration information into the computer graphics card. When your computer is turned on again, the LUT information in ICC file will be loaded and transmitted to the graphics card immediately, and the display effect will change.

Second, it is used for the conversion of image color space.

A film and television work has its own independent color management scheme from shooting to color correction to final screening. LUT color management is to unify different color spaces.

Thirdly, it is used for the design and simulation of special color effects.

In other words, the image is converted from one standard color space to another.
