The difference between Nikon d800 and d800e

The difference is that the D800E cancels the low-pass filter (e is the abbreviation of excellent and wonderful), and the resolution is higher. Other parameters D800E and D800 are basically the same.

The purpose of low-pass filter is to reduce the appearance of moire fringes. When users are shooting more scenes such as pinstripes on clothes and fences on air conditioners, the following scenes will appear. Simply put, when there are repeated stripes in the picture and the stripes projected on the sensor are similar to or smaller than the stripes between the sensor pixels, the sensor will misread these stripe signals and output an error signal, which is called Moire stripes. The low-pass filter will filter out the moire fringe as much as possible when shooting. Although the picture is guaranteed to be as "pure" as possible, the resolution is reduced (after all, some picture information is filtered out).

The red box refers to moire stripes.

Of course, the filtered picture information is not a club for ordinary photographers. If you are a photographer who pursues high quality and high resolution, it seems a bit "lost". So D800E cancels the low-pass filter and improves the resolution. However, when shooting objects with repeated stripes, photos are more prone to moire fringes, which has advantages and disadvantages. This is normal.
