Memoirs of a Geisha is a love drama directed by rob marshall, which recalls the tragic life of the heroine Geisha (played by Zhang Ziyi). Produced by Steven Allan Spielberg and starring Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Yang Ziqiong and Ken Watanabe, it was released in the United States on February 23rd, 2005.

This film tells how the memoirs of a geisha changed from a fishing village woman to one of the most famous geisha in Japanese history.

This film won the 78th Academy Awards in 2006, including best photography, best art direction and best costume design. Zhang Ziyi, who plays the memoirs of the heroine geisha, became the first China actress nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her outstanding performance, and Gong Li won the Best Supporting Actress at the 77th American Film Review Award.
