How can ginkgo biloba on the street be an endangered species?
In fact, from a biological point of view, there are generally two conditions for a species to be defined as an endangered species. The first condition is that in a relatively long evolutionary time, the wild population of this species is very small and can hardly be found in the wild. The second condition is that although there are many wild populations, the number of other species in this species is very small.
Ginkgo actually meets the first condition, because there are few wild ginkgo trees now, and these ginkgo trees seen on the road are cultivated by certain means. Moreover, ginkgo biloba also meets the second condition. Ginkgo biloba belongs to Ginkgo biloba-Ginkgo biloba-Ginkgo biloba if it is strictly classified according to biology, and there is only one kind of Ginkgo biloba under each category.
Therefore, at present, there is no plant or species belonging to the same category as Ginkgo biloba, so Ginkgo biloba is the only single seedling of Ginkgo biloba. If this seedling disappears, then the whole ginkgo will disappear. Such a species is of course an endangered species.
Although there are many ginkgo trees in the street that reproduce asexually, it also has a very fatal disadvantage, that is, the genes of these ginkgo trees are very single. If, in the process of evolution, this gene has a mutation, it can no longer adapt to the current living environment, and a large-scale disease appears, then it is very likely that all ginkgo trees on the street will die instantly.
