What's the best way to take pictures at a musical performance?

Often ask? What should be paid attention to in rock live photography? My answer is:? Be safe! ?

I think objectively speaking, the biggest difficulty of rock photography lies in the interference caused by the very chaotic scene environment. In rock scenes (especially in smaller performance venues), the ever-changing and very complicated lighting, coupled with the extremely chaotic surrounding environment (children's shoes can use the terms POGO, MOSH and dead wall), will bring various objective problems to shooting.

In fact, shooting rock scenes is prone to various emergencies and even dangerous situations. I have also suffered many injuries during these years of filming, such as being stabbed in the right eye by metal gifts waved by fans, being kicked in the back of the head and hit by elbows, being hit by the musician's piano head and temples, being kicked in the neck, being trampled by the crowd, being kicked in the ribs, and many other minor injuries? Listening has been somewhat affected over the years. Therefore, in these aspects, we must first protect our own safety, followed by equipment safety.

/ready/

Speaking of psychological preparation and other preparations, I think we must do a good job in shooting rock performances? Bombing? At this time, having an anti-noise earplug may be a good choice for many people.

Then prepare some high-calorie biscuits and so on. Shooting outdoor performances for a long time is easy to miss meals for various reasons, and such high-intensity shooting consumes a lot of physical strength, so emergency preparation in this area is very helpful, and it is the same with taking a band-aid.

/technical problems/

I think when shooting rock scenes, the love of music should be the first, technology can be explored and ideas can be cultivated, but only the love of music will make you really used to, familiar with and intoxicated with outsiders? Crazy? At the rock scene.

Besides, every photographer has his own shooting habits, there is no absolute good or bad, and what suits him is the best. Skills also serve their own shooting concept, in? Targeted? It's easier to get what you need in this situation.

Here are some of my shooting habits for your reference:

1, m file

First of all, I recommend using RAW format and M file, which is the most basic.

When shooting in the rock scene, the photographer should have fast enough reaction speed and the ability to predict in advance. In addition, the lighting of the scene is complex, and these basic skills of skillfully using M-files are more solid.

Step 2 shoot blindly

Personally, I often like the faster shooting rhythm in rock scenes. I prefer the super wide-angle blind shot. The environment of the rock scene is very complicated. By freeing my eyes from the viewfinder by blind shot, I can better observe and analyze all kinds of situations at the scene, and try not to miss every wonderful moment at the scene at a relatively fast speed.

I judge whether the focus is successful by feeling the vibration of the fuselage with my hands. If not, I can directly adjust my wrist to focus the fuselage.

Sometimes I rush into POGO to shoot. This environment is extremely complicated. It will be dangerous if I look at the lens frame and shoot slowly. In this case, I will adjust the lens to manual focus, hook the manual focus ring with my left index finger, and then I will know the strength of finger hook. The manual focus ring can be rotated by a corresponding distance, and then I will estimate the focal length with my body for blind shot.

This can free your eyes, better find the right shooting time and better avoid danger.

3. Super wide-angle lens

If you are in a small bar /livehouse, the photographer is often close to the stage. In this case, it is best to shoot with ultra-wide or wide-angle scale. At this time, a large telephoto lens or many novices like to focus with a large aperture of 50mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4 of half the fuselage to make up for the shortcoming that the focal length is often too narrow in dark environment.

In fact, the lens of each focal segment has a sense of distance suitable for it. It is most important for photographers to find a sense of distance that suits their environment and habits. Many photographers like to shoot with fisheye lenses, but the premise of using fisheye is that they need a very good sense of distance. If the distance is not right, what they shoot often looks wide? Empty? After the first visual impact, it is difficult to leave anything worth feeling seriously.

The ideal state is to reasonably match the focal length (preferably two fuselage), the big scene and details cooperate with each other, and the rhythm is better arranged.

In Livehouse, I often hang a super wide angle on the fuselage and a 50mm 1.4 (or zoom lens) on the sub-fuselage. When shooting a large-scale performance, one fuselage hangs a super wide-angle lens and the other hangs a telephoto lens. The flash is installed on the fuselage and equipped with a super wide-angle lens.

4, the use of light

At the performance site, there will be many gorgeous moments to capture. Most photographers prefer to capture the actors' movements, demeanor and so on when shooting scenes. Personally, I prefer to put more energy into the analysis and application of on-site light. For light, first understand it, then analyze it, and then make rational use of it. Everyone has their own shooting habits, which vary from person to person.

For example, many friends think this photo is a special stage set, but it is not. This photo was taken by Su Jianxin (former lead singer of Shin band) at a big concert. At that time, the environment was the simplest stage smoke and a spotlight, but I went around behind him to shoot and found the right angle, so I got this photo.

Making good use of lighting often produces unexpected effects:

5. Rational use of black and white

Sometimes, the rational use of black and white, on the one hand, can avoid the extremely adverse effects brought by the lighting environment, on the other hand, it can better highlight the texture.

6, flashing light slow door should be used with caution.

There are also many friends who like to use flashing lights to slow down the door. For this, I think at first glance, can it look like it? Gorgeous? But in fact, it is difficult to take photos worth reading again and again. For most of my friends, I don't recommend it.

7. Overcome the dim light environment

As for the dim light environment, I think it must be overcome. Facing an important moment, being photographed? Is the first. At that moment, I would rather improve the ISO to ensure the correct exposure of photos than worry about the dark parts of the RAW format.

20 13~20 14 The third night of Shenzhen New Year's Midi, this rock grandma? Diving? She was passed by countless hands in the crowd, and she was also hands in the air. The light behind the crowd is extremely weak, but this moment is too important, so be sure to record it! The final data is F4,1160seconds, ISO 12800! Is noise important at this moment? ?

/shooting concept/

Every photographer has his own idea of shooting. I always hope that my photos are not only a simple record of a moment at the scene, but also a direct mapping of people's memories of a performance. Use a photo to represent a performance, and even convey the inner power of music through photos.

For me, I hope my rock shooting can dig out more love for music across ages and genders at the rock scene. Rock music is not only a bloody struggle, but also gentle love and peaceful tolerance? Therefore, I hope that my photos can give people a more representative impression besides the simple performance records, and I also hope that I can bring a little atmosphere, a little warmth and a little touch to the audience besides the violent dynamics of rock music.

I think feeling more, summarizing more and thinking more about your subject can help you form your own shooting concept. When you have accumulated some ideas and experiences, what is the so-called? Personal style? Natural tone.

Of course, with the continuous exploration, the concept will also change, which is particularly obvious in the photos. Every time I shoot, I try to try with different ideas and different understandings.
