Chengde is located in Hebei Province, which is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province.

Chengde is located in the transition zone between North China and Northeast China, bordering Beijing and Tianjin in the northeast of Hebei Province, Chifeng and Xilin Gol in the north, Chaoyang, Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Zhangjiakou in the east and west, 435 kilometers away from Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital, and 225 kilometers away from Beijing.
