What does HDR mean in Apple's mobile phone camera?

HDR stands for high dynamic range, or HDR for short, which means high dynamic range image.

Compared with ordinary images, it can provide more dynamic range and image details. According to the LDR (low dynamic range) images with different exposure times, the final HDR image can be synthesized by using the LDR image with the best details corresponding to each exposure time, which can better reflect the visual effect in the real environment.

When taking photos, the iPhone is actually three photos of continuous shooting, corresponding to underexposure, normal exposure and overexposure respectively, and then a photo is synthesized to improve the details of the dark and bright parts.

In most cases, HDR photos are closer to what the human eye sees, but when taking photos after HDR is turned on, it will take a few more seconds to store photos because of HDR synthesis, which may have an impact on what to capture continuously; Although iPhone can be set to store original photos and HDR photos, it may take up more storage space.

Iphone photo HDR tip:

Landscape photo: A classic application of HDR function is landscape photo under blue sky and white clouds. Turning on HDR can make the sky bluer and the grass greener, but the only exceptions are sunrise and sunset.

Outdoor Portrait: When shooting outdoor backlit portraits, first choose to focus on the face of the person, and then use the HDR function to shoot, so that both the person and the background can have a suitable exposure.

Shooting moving objects: In HDR mode, iPhone will take three photos of continuous shooting and then combine them. Although continuous shooting is very fast, if the subject is moving, the composite photo will still appear ghosting.

Flash photography: HDR and flash cannot be turned on at the same time. When using an external light source to illuminate a dark object, you must also keep your hands steady or use a tripod.
