Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) Library?
Project location: Shenzhen, China.
Design time: 20 17
Design unit: Wang Weiren Architectural Design and Research Institute.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) campus is located in Longgang District, Shenzhen. The campus covers an area of about 6,543,800 square meters and is divided into three campuses: Shangyuan, Zhongyuan and Xiayuan. Among them, the library is located in Xia Yuan. The design of the library of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Campus divides the functional mass of the six-storey large floor into two staggered C-shaped long masses.
Through turning and overhead superposition, the volume of two three-story long strips matches the entrance orientation of the campus and the axis of the green space, which not only preserves the line of sight penetration of the central green space to the mountain, but also maintains the integrity of the natural slope of the campus.
The library building extends the campus green shopping center to the atrium, creating a direct visual connection between the campus and the hills behind the building.
The six-story atrium of the library is surrounded by bookshelves and filled with reflected natural light. The atrium space runs through the building vertically and connects different reading and learning spaces horizontally.
The horizontal volume blends the surrounding landscape into the building, bringing a sense of nature to the dense shelving area.
Skylights filter natural light to the center of the library, creating a warm and friendly environment for reading and learning.
Externally, the library building is connected with the adjacent student center, teaching building and sunken garden, creating a learning center for knowledge exchange among students.
The use of materials combines local bricklaying technology and glass-aluminum curtain wall system. The external curvature design of library buildings is related to the internal tortuous experience, creating a sense of discovery between architecture and nature, vertical and horizontal.
