What does raw format mean?

Raw format refers to the original data recorded when the camera takes pictures.

In fact, the RAW file is a general term, and the RAW file shot by each camera brand will have different suffixes. JPG itself is a unified photo format, so the suffix is JPG or JPEG.

Each camera brand has its own unique RAW file suffix, such as Canon's suffix is CR2 or CR3, Nikon's suffix is NEF, Sony's suffix is ARW, Fuji's suffix is RAF, Panasonic's suffix is RW2, Pentax's suffix is PEF, Leica's suffix is DNG, Hasselblad's suffix is 3FR and so on.

RAW files are almost unprocessed information obtained directly from CCD or CMOS. Through post-processing, photographers can maximize their artistic talents.

RAW file has no white balance setting, but the real data has not been changed, which means that the author can adjust the color temperature and white balance at will without loss of image quality.

On a computer with a microprocessor, color linearization and filter row-column transformation are processed faster, which allows the application of some more complex algorithms that are not allowed on a camera.
