Brief introduction of sunbird in Shenyang government square;

1973 One day in the spring, an agricultural technician named Meng found several pieces of pottery with traces on the construction site of a factory dormitory in the northern suburb of Shenyang. Meng sent these strange pottery fragments to the cultural relics department. After expert identification, these pottery fragments came from distant prehistoric times. Subsequently, the cultural relics department excavated in this place called Xinle Factory and found a Neolithic site of ancient human culture, which was named Xinle Site by the archaeological community.

Judging from the excavated cultural relics, there were human activities in Shenyang as early as 7200 years ago. How did the ancients who lived here live in the long prehistoric period? What material civilizations have they created? What position does it occupy in Chinese civilization? Archaeologists tried to find the answer through Xinle site.

"Xinle site has now excavated an area of nearly 4,000 square meters, and found more than 40 semi-crypt residential sites, including three such big houses, with an area of over 90 square meters. Through the excavation of these houses, we initially learned that the social and marital status of this site at that time should still be in the stage of group marriage or such a period of excessive couple marriage. "

In a house site, cultural relics workers found a woodcarving product. Some people say that wood carving is a beast, others say it is a bird, so Shenyang people call it sun bird wood carving. What is even more surprising is that this wood carving has been scientifically tested and proved to have a history of 7200 years. For the purpose of this woodcarving, some people think it is a totem of the tribe at that time, or a symbol of the power of the female tribal leader. Continue to overlay until the woodcarving is over.

In Xinle site, people also unearthed a large number of pottery and stone tools. These crockery are exquisitely made, and they are covered with carefully carved patterns. Judging from the stone mill found, Xinle people have planted a lot of millet and other grains.

We made some pottery by imitating the new musicians 7200 years ago. At that time, the slow wheel for making pottery had not been invented, and all the pottery shapes were made by the method of clay strips or stickers. It was only around 5,000 years ago that the wheel method became popular among prehistoric people in China, and this method has continued to this day.

Sunbird woodcarving unearthed from Xinle site is decorated with exquisite patterns from top to bottom, and every grain on the woodcarving is very delicate. As early as 7000 years ago, people had not invented metal smelting, let alone metal carving knives. So, what tools do new musicians use to carve?

With the deepening of excavation, many beautifully polished jade carving knives were unearthed in this site. These stone knives and jade knives have sharp blades, much like carving tools at that time. Cultural relics workers copied a jade knife and carved a sunbird pattern on the wood. Judging from the sharpness of jade knives, it is likely that new musicians made their handicrafts in this way as early as 7200 years ago.

The woodcarving of sunbird found in Xinle site was completely carbonized when it was unearthed. At that time, the woodcarving was burned for some reason. Perhaps the burned woodcarving could no longer be used as a totem of the tribe, so people threw it in the corner and buried it in the soil to gradually carbonize it, so it could be preserved for 7000 years. According to archaeological findings, new musicians at that time were able to use tools to make kindling, which is very similar to the records in ancient books in China.

Some ceramic oblique mouthpieces have also been unearthed at Xinle site, all of which have been repeatedly fired. Such oblique mouthpieces are rare in cultural sites of the same period in China. Archaeologists believe that the oblique mouth device was used by Xinle people to store fire in caves. Perhaps the oblique mouth device also played a certain role in the later furnace. If the hypothesis holds, it will be the earliest stove for human beings.

The discovery of Xinle Site provides another example for investigating the formation of ancient civilization in China.

Perhaps it was 7000 years that made people feel some magical power. Shenyang people regard the ancient wood carving as a sunbird that brings light, and erect it in the center of the city square as a symbol of Shenyang city.

In the South Square, the emblem of a large-scale World Expo will also be composed of five-color grass, golden flowers, chrysanthemums, begonia and other flowers.
