3. Artistic characteristics
A review of Xie Jin's film creations over the past decades can be summarized in:
1. Reasoning and sensationalism——This is Xie Jin’s thinking on social philosophy and human ethics. The form of expression is based on emotions, which is another necessary reason for Chinese audiences to sigh and flock to watch. The key to the longevity of Xie Jin's films over the decades is that they can both capture the common sense of the world and echo the thinking of the times, thus deeply touching people's hearts.
2. Commenting on history and emphasizing facts - Xie Jin's films keenly grasp the major social issues in historical development, and do not avoid dangers to explore and judge. For example, "The Legend of Tianyun Mountain" touches on the anti-"right" for the first time Expanding the issue and extending the extreme "left" thinking about the Cultural Revolution to sensitive areas that have not yet been expressed has a shocking effect. But his starting point and final destination are the hot issues that people in real society are concerned about. Whether it is the patriotic feelings involved in "The Wrangler", the self-defense counterattack and the issue of cadres' children in "Wreaths Under the Mountain", they all respond to social reality in a timely manner.
3. Pity for women and disobedience——The outstanding feature of Xie Jin’s films is that they focus on expressing “people”. His thinking about people has never left the two aspects of "emotion" and "ambition". It pays more attention to rendering human feelings than many directors, and also pays more attention to rational politics. However, the preference for moral people is the advantage and strength of Xie Jin's films, especially the portrayal of female images. Xie Jin can produce rich and beautiful female images in almost every film: the success of Zhu Xijuan, Xie Fang, Shi Jianlan, Li Xiuming, Cong Shan, Liu Xiaoqing, Wang Yumei, and Chen Chong is proof of this. Xie Jin's film emphasizes the tenderness, kindness and endearment of women, which makes the film's emotional charm quite obvious. But what is even more obvious is that he took as the object of expression women who bravely twist their fate and fight tenaciously, thus creating a charming female image full of national glory on the screen for the first time. At this point, no director can match it.
