What do the stars painted on the streets of Los Angeles mean?

That's called "Avenue of Stars." The Avenue of Stars is a street in a suburb of Los Angeles called Hollywood. It is located on both sides of Hollywood Boulevard and Vanguard Street. There are stars with the names of some celebrities engraved on the sidewalk.

The first star placed on the Walk of Fame in 1960 was for Joan Woodward. Nearly 2,300 stars have left their signatures and handprints on the Avenue of Stars, and this number is increasing at a rate of one to two every month. Each star here expresses their support for movies, radio, television, plays and recordings. A tribute to more than two thousand artists who have made huge contributions to the industry.

Each star of the star-shaped medal is engraved with the name of the awardee, and below it is a ring-shaped logo, representing the field where the awardee receives the star. These symbols are:

Movie Camera: Contribution to the film industry.

Television: Contribute to the television industry.

Gramophone records: Contributions to the recording industry.

Broadcast microphone: Contribution to the broadcast industry.

Tragi-comic masks: a contribution to live theatre.
