Who knows what "Yi Chan Ti Ren" means?
Yi Chanti, female, lives in Shanghai and is now an employee. Her attire is very ordinary, but she has been in the punk circle for many years. A young person who has close contact with punks in Shanghai, although she does not consider herself a punk, when talking about punk, she does show that she is familiar with Chinese punk.
New Century: What do you see the punks wearing?
One explanation mentioned: Leather jackets and leather trousers, mostly with nails. The shoes must be leather boots or military boots, particularly heavy ones that look like they can open a steel door with one foot. They wear rings, necklaces, and bracelets, but they are all extremely rough. Both men and women are in this "style". They are either made of leather or stainless steel. Most of them also hang a trouser chain around their waist, and most of them have modified bicycle chains. , they will proudly call themselves the "Pants Chain Party". Girls have a lot of earrings, and boys must have lip rings, nose rings and the like. Not everyone has tattoos, fewer girls, but 90% of boys have them.
New Century: What tattoos do they usually get?
Yichan mentioned: There are all kinds of tattoos, Chegrava has the most, followed by red stars, Mao Zedong, and fists. The coolest thing is that I saw a boy with a barcode tattooed on his arm. There was also a line on the barcode that said he died on a certain day of a certain year and a certain month. In fact, that was his birthday.
New Century: So punk! How old are the punks you know and what do they do?
Yichan mentioned people of different ages, the oldest is in his 30s and the youngest is in his 90s. Of course those born in the 1990s are students, but most of them have very poor grades and a few have dropped out of school. What are the professions? There are lecturers, civil servants, painting teachers, freelance photographers, graphic designers, and some who start their own companies. However, these are relatively special cases, and most of them are still unemployed, euphemistically called freelance workers.
New Century: Then what do they live on?
Yichan mentioned people: Do odd jobs, such as selling some second-hand clothes, doing some short-term work. Most of these people consider themselves artists and can take some photos, write something and so on.
New Century: Why do you think they are punk?
Yichan Tier: I have always felt that punk is idealism and utopia at best, but at worst is a group of children who are unwilling to grow up and take responsibility. The reason is probably related to my childhood experiences. For example, when you were a child and your family was very disciplined, or you were in a single-parent family, you would easily become dissatisfied with society and call yourself a punk, which is a bit of a punk. There are also those who purely use punk as a cover, because punks are regarded as alien by the public, so claiming to be a punk means that you can do many extraordinary things without being criticized, such as taking drugs, being promiscuous, not studying hard, not looking for a job, etc.
New Century: Are there many such people?
Yichan Tiren: This question is difficult to answer. It has to do with the circle in which one plays. Let's put it this way, it shouldn't be too little. There are many people who look no different from ordinary white-collar workers now, but it turns out that there was a time when they had punk tendencies.
New Age: What is their most prominent punk behavior?
One commentator: Their views on many issues are different from those of the general public. They do not think that sex is a very serious matter. They feel that as long as there is a need, it should be satisfied. It cannot simply be said that they are doing nothing. It should be said that they always want to do something but they always only exist in a state of fantasy and do not know how to turn their imagination into reality.
New Century: Does punk have a catchphrase or slang?
Yichan mentioned people: swear words and pornographic jokes belong to the catchphrase. Is it slang...for example, call a girl "Guo'er", call a good (beautiful) "Jian Guo'er", call a boy "Sun", call an outstanding one "Jian Sun", call a boyfriend or girlfriend "Xi" ", being found means being "played".
New Century: Are you a punk?
Yi Chanti: I don’t think so. There is also a slang term for "small sample". The difference from "small sample" is that small sample is something made without skills and necessary equipment, and it is usually very rough.
New Century: Why do you think you are not?
Yi Shanti: I feel that at least I am very responsible for my life. I will work hard for whatever I want. Even though I sometimes cannot see the results, I will not complain or give up easily.
New Century: Then you use some words to explain punk.
Yi Chan mentions people: rebellious, dirty and proud, dark, depressed, hopeless and struggling.
New Century: When did you first get into contact with punk?
Yichanti: It was probably around 1998. At that time, I started listening to Chinese rock. I heard "One Kind" by Underground Baby in "Chinese Fire 2" and I liked it very much. But there was no concept at the time that said: Oh, this is punk. Oh, that's rock and roll. At that time, I just listened and swallowed everything.
New Century: So how did you get in touch with the punk group?
Yichan mentioned: In 2001, the Music Warehouse opened in Shanghai, and I began to go to performances frequently. I also went to U-like and Ark before, but not very frequently. At that time, because I was interning in the media, I often went to watch performances in the name of interviews.
