Introduction to Hiroji Kubota
Hiroji Kubota is Magnum’s only Japanese photographer. He graduated from the Department of Political Science at the University of Tokyo. In 1961, during a visit to Japan by Magnum members, he met Rene Burri, Burt Glinn and Elliott Erwitt and other major photographers of Ma Society at that time. In 1962, Kubota was transferred to Chicago due to work and officially became a freelance photographer in 1965.
