According to the literature, the Jiangdong River is "the confrontation between the mountains on both sides of the river, the convergence of thousands of valleys, the rapids of the river, the choppy waves, and the retreat of the boats, which is dazzling."
During the reign of Shao Xi in the Southern Song Dynasty (1190-1194), Zhao Yibo, the magistrate, built a pontoon bridge in the middle of the Jiangdong River with a combined boat, which was the first in the history of Jiangdong Bridge.
In the seventh year of Jiading (12 14), the county magistrate Hou built a stone pier wooden bridge in summer, and the wooden bridge was destroyed by fire in the first year of Jiaxi (1237), so at the initiative of the chief of Yinzhou, a beam stone bridge was built.
The Records of Longxi County records that this stone bridge is "20 feet wide and 2,000 feet long", and bridge opening has "ten miles and five lanes". 1970, reinforced concrete highway bridge is raised and erected on the ancient bridge.
Today, under the highway bridge near the west bank, there are five complete piers, two spans of bridge deck and nine residual pier foundations of the ancient bridge and the East-West King Kong Wall, with a residual length of 100.35 meters. The piers are formed by stacking strips of 0.35 × 0.4 × 5.2m, in the shape of a bow, with a length of 1 1.4m and a width of 5.3m. The span between each pier is paved with 3-5 stone beams.
Jiangdong Bridge has been built for more than 700 years, with prosperity and waste. During the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, this stone bridge was repeatedly destroyed and repaired. According to historical records, it was * * * for more than ten times.
Especially in the 18th year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty, Wang Shi's sofa was rebuilt and built by Gu Sike, the chief magistrate. The new Liang Shi Bridge was completed the following winter.
The heaviest beam stone is nearly 200 tons. In ancient times, it was inconceivable to mine such a huge Liang Shi, but what tools were used to transport it to the river and put it on the dock is still a mystery.

Dr Joseph Needham, a world bridge expert from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, commented in the History of Science and Technology in China: "No matter at home or abroad, it can't be compared anywhere else."
After years of vicissitudes, the Zhangzhou government has planned the cultural relics protection of Jiangdong Bridge and built the riverside plank road. Standing on the bridge, you can see the old pier and Liang Shi. Castle Peak in the distance, rivers flowing through Tao Tao, villages on both sides. I am just a passer-by.
