Do bats hibernate in winter?

Bats hibernate during the winter.

Bats have the habit of hibernating, and most hibernating places are in caves. During hibernation, the metabolic capacity is reduced, and breathing and heartbeat are only a few times per minute. Blood flow slows and body temperature decreases to match the ambient temperature. However, hibernation is not deep, and they sometimes excrete and eat during the hibernation period. They can return to normal immediately after waking up.

Bats Living Environment

Bats live in various large and small caves, in the gaps, ceilings, partitions of ancient buildings, tree holes, and rock crevices on mountains. Some southern food Fruit bats also hide behind the leaves of palm and banana trees. Some bat populations have thousands of bats together, some bats have male and female bats living together, and some have separate male and female bats.

Many bats that live in the woods migrate to warmer areas during the winter, sometimes flying thousands of miles. Temperate cave bats generally hibernate. Bats breed only once a year, during the earlier warm season, when bats give birth to young.
